Does the soil need to be steralized when casing PF jars?
    #3817169 - 02/22/05 04:12 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

I was wondering whether it is nessesary to steralize the peat-moss and vermiculite when one is casing PF jars? I was just wondering because I do not own a pressure cooker and have heard that mycelin is very contam resistant, when fully developed.
Thanks for the help-
Chris

You can sterilize it, but pasteurization is what your looking for. Check the faq for details. This will work for casing.

I would say yes.

It's not that hard to steralize things. Put your vermiculite in a glass microwave-safe bowl in the microwave for 5 minutes.

Just my .2 cents

You aren't supposed to sterilize peat, it will kill all the good stuff in it only pasteurization is necessary.
