How hot do fishtank heaters get???

I searched the shroomery, and petco.com, can't figure out how hot a 300 watt fishtank heater can get the water? How hot do these things get?
-------------------- And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk ...four times already this year and I used to be over by the window and I could see the squirrels, and they were merry, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and its not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire.

pretty hot.
hot enough for my 150 watt so that when i put it in the water it hisses.
think about it like a light bulb. Would you touch a 300 watt light bulb without something on your hands if it's been on for a while?? also fish tank heaters have even less surface area than a light bulb so they probably get even hotter...bulbs have more durface area than you might think because they are spherical too...

Look at the dial temp setting on it. Most submersible ones have a temp setting from about 68 to 98F.
But..... don't set one on high & take it out of the water, as it can overheat - quickly & BUST . It needs to be submerged in water, to operate properly.

The get pretty hot but make sure you get the right size for your application. Always go bigger (less time to heat and consistent temperature). The have heaters that are unbreakable (made of metal) but they are more expensive ($3 to $10 more). Check eBay.

Get a good one. Ebo Jager heaters are known in the aquarium industry to be the best for the hobiest. They have very precise thermostats and are very efficient. Next step up is one that has a separate temp controler and temp probe. They are a little more still but are worth the money. A cheap heater can swing as much as 10 degrees within it's thermostats cut off points and you can roast your spawn. Cheap heaters are also more prone to fire as well and your stealth will be not much of an issue when the FD finds out your grow op started the fire.

Yea, they can be dangerous if you don't take all the necessary precautions when using them...I've read about people forgetting to add water to their TiT's after months of using them and coming home to their TiT bottom melted out, getting ready to get hot anough to start a fire....So, i'm guessing pretty damn home. Gl, and be careful...

"SPACE HEATER"..... you heating SPACE..... or water?
"Heat things up"...... What things?
I would not advice using it rectaly (joke).
It matters what the TIT is setting on. A cold floor, or something insulated. If on insulated surface, TIT will remain pretty close to ambiant room temp. Cold floor, it will be much cooler & require more watts.
Bigger heating capacity is better & wise investment. Less strain on it. You can alway turn a bigger one down. You cannot turn a small one - UP - beyond its Max watt capacity to heat water.

Whatever kind of room heater you use, should be fine - so long as it maintains a comfortable room temp, without creating a fire hazard.
Large storage container means differing things - to differing folks.
5 gallon might seem large to some. 40 gallon might seem small to others.
If your TIT is setting on an insulated surface (even several layers of cardboard) a 50 watt should do the trick. But, a 100 watt is only a couple dollars more & I would get get a 100 watt one. If you already have a 50 watt, test it & see if it works.

It depends on:
- the size of the tubs - the isolation of the tubs - the ambient temperature

i belive wattage dosent matter all that much as they will just take longer to heat up i was told that at the local peat store but im really not sure more watts is always better becouse they have temp gauges and wont over heat

MY PENN PLAX 50 watt was too hot for my setup and burned a hole in the fruiting chamber and i think melted perlite. BTW, even though perlite is fireproof, it lets out a terrible smell to smell up the house. good thing is the heater still works.
If i wasnt buying a digital cooler from ebay(http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7135439985&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT), i would get a fish tank heater that can be set to differing temps, like this:(http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=8172&N=2004+112984)
peace.

I run a 50 watt 5-15 gallon water heater in my TiT. House temperature typically stands at around 60 degrees (if it's warm out). the heater is capable of producing water temperatures of more than 100 degrees. my TiT is 2 crate-style tubs (with a red, interlocking top -- im sure you're seen one before) w/ my heater submerged, and the top tub tied down with shoestrings (to prevent floating) Around the container i have my sleeping bag (rated to 30 degrees) securly wrapped around it, with a pad lining the wall to reduce heat loss as much as possible. I've hardly noticed a change in my electricity bill so im assuming that the setup retains a good amount of heat. Definatly look into insulating your incubation chamber, but dont forget to check underneath it on occasion to check on your water levels!
