good places to trip near Phoenix, AZ?

Well I've lived near Phoenix all my life, but for some reason I can't come up with very many good places to trip. "good" meaning somewhere that has a lot of nature and is away from the public (and the police).
I was thinking about heading out to a lake (canyon or bartlett) but since it'll be on a weekend, there might be too many people out there.
anybody have any good ideas? preferably not more than an hours drive out of phoenix?
Thanks guys.

Hola Sk4
I too live near Phoenix. I havn't had the chance to try shrooms yet (will soon though =0) ) but I would imagine that Prescott would be an awesome place to trip if you want to make the hour or so drive. There are some really beautiful, secluded areas up in the woods that would be wonderful on shrooms. I also feel very close to nature when I'm in the desert/mountains, and this is the next place I would suggest. Of course you won't have to go far to find that in Phoenix!
Btw, I just got really strong de ja vu while replying to your post...have we met elsewhere maybe?
Peace

Sedona would be really cool too if you got away from the people. Oak Creek Canyon also comes to mind...

this guy knows what he's talking about...those are great places provided you can miss the people, especially sedona...it's like mars, and you can check out those weird energy point things..i forget what they really are. if you're low dosing you could also try out the salt river/canyon which is not far from phoenix at all...it has awesme scenery but it also has lots of drunk people usually, and it's usually pretty hot. also the estrella mountains south of south mountain come to mind... they are the tallest mountains around. there is tons of great things to see in arizona if you can do a weekend trip or something. unfortunately i moved away from phoenix 10 years ago so i don't remember much to do right around the city itself.

There was a gathering way out out past Canyon Lake and it was pretty cool out there. Just as long as there aren't alot of people.
I bet Sedonna or Flagstaff would have some groovy spots.

Man I don't live there, but I would love to some day and to me it seems there would be tons of great places. Unless there are things you gotta be carefull around when tripping in the desert, like animals and insects? Still sounds cool. Have fun!

most of the places listed aren't really deep in the desert, though they do get very hot. i used to live southwest of phoenix, and it would be over 100 by noon every day for about 3 months straight. during the day you really have to worry about the heat more than the critters, because the creatures usually are hiding during the day. it's at night when you have to be careful.

Depending on the temperature, rattlesnakes will be out in the day as well. I used to be really active in the boyscouts and we'd see a Diamondback every once in a while while hiking in the middle of the day. They're always hiding under a bush or something though.
Also, the last time I tripped I almost ran in to a jumping cactus because it looked like a regular bush until I was about 1 foot away from it...so be careful if you guys trip around cacti
I can't believe I forgot about Oak Creek Canyon and Sedona. Thanks for reminding me. Although it might still be a little cold up there this time of year, I'm sure that the scenery would make for an awesome time.
