I was thinkin of putting a heater inside a gallon of water and putting that in the middle of a big rubbermaid I have for an incubator.
Anyone tried this?

Why not just make a TiT?
Heatbombs don't put heat everywhere either, you have to turn jars to distribute heat just right, you have to turn them every 3 days or so to maintain a good temp. on all the jars, the ones closer are warmer than the ones towards the outside, a TiT and small water pump can fix that. TiT's are a bit big but you can fit ssoooooo many jars in there and maintain a nice temp setting... But I don't see why a big heat bomb wouldn't work

yeah fuck it, if you got a heater already and are talking about putting that in a big rubbermaid container, why not go for a TiT? for like 8-14 bucks ou could have another tub and a beautiful incubator... after using a TiT is hard to imagine a better solution for incubation

I've always looked at TiT as an incredible pain in the ass, a lot because of my grow op is on my 3rd floor and I don't feel like transporting all that water.

Start a fish tank or something. I can't believe that carrying one or two gallons of water would deter someone from making a TIT. Depending on what size box you use for a TIT you only need to check the level of the water once or at the most twice a week. Even the originator of the Heatbomb said that it is for small scale incubations only, from the pics that I have seen from the creator, only a few jars are able to prosper around the area that the heating element is. My FOAF has a ghetto incubator made from a comp case and a reptile hot rock thing, you can definitely tell the difference between the jars/bags depending on the distance from the heat source. Like Bixo said, why not do it right the first time for a couple of bucks more and only do it once... unless having something around like that may cause questions. /end drunk ramble

Fish tank heater in gallon water jar works fine in a upright dead fridge, or freezer. But, a rubbermaid setting on a cold floor - isnt insulated & would perforn differantly.
