As far as I know azures can grow (vegitatively) on most of the substrates used for cubensis. Its the fruiting stage that needs a wood substrate.

That tech. is in the shroomery grow archives under growing different species. I don't know how well that would work, I've never heard of anyone reproducing that guys results. Oh and just for your enlightenment. They are not cubies. "Cubies" are Psilocybe Cubensis Azure's are Psilocybe Azurescens.

If you read carefully the text you mean, called "Growing Flying Saucers" in the "growing other species"-section, the author writes about fruiting Psi. azurescens without going down with the temperature, i.e. at least at room temp (22 C). Or if I cite: "Having read that flying saucers required a drop in temperature to between 10-15 degrees celsius to fruit, I initiated a series of Byzantine techniques to lower the temperature. These included the liberal use of plastic cooling blocks and placing the tupperware container in a fridge set at maximum temperature. Because of developments in the other experiments, I discontinued these tedious activities after about 21 days." The author also writes that he got the spores from "Smart Botanics", and there was a time where a strain from cubensis was erroneously selled as Psi. azurescens. So the most probable thing is that the text is erroneous and the author reported his/her experience growing Psi cubensis on wood based substrates. I have tried to tell the webmaster of The Shroomery about this incoherence, but they haven't shown any interest :( They could at least reread the text and make an own idea of it. Elektrolurch

That sounds like the most probable reason his cardboard casings succeeded.
