Im not like a lawyer or anything, so dont go out and do anything illegal on my advice. But im pretty sure that theyre legal to pick and eat, as long as theyre not prepared in any was. You cant grow them, you cant dry them, and you cant sell them. Heres a link to Erowid http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_law.shtml

The truth is nodoby seems to know. Mushrooms themselves are not mentioned anywhere in the misuse of drugs act, but Psilocybin is. In the past cases involving mushrooms (dried and fresh) have been thrown out fo court because the judges have ruled that 'mushrooms are mushrooms and psilocybin is a chemical', but this is no guarentee this would hapen to you.
It's generally considered ok to pick and eat fresh mushroom, and to grow mushrooms so long as you eat them fresh. If you dry them you are getting into a more complicated area, and if you sell them then you are asking for trouble.
Basically the word of the law is not clear, and it will all depend on how the police officer who catches you, and the judge who (may or may no) sees your case chooses to interpret the law.
