In some trouble... please help!
    #3811225 - 02/21/05 03:45 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

My appologies if this question is answered somewhere on the forum, but I've been looking for a few hours and I'm ready to give up. This is a real bummer; I've gotten through the entire process, with 11 out of 12 original jars fine and ready to fruit. I put them in the fruiting chamber with wet perlite on the bottom and the humidity will not go over 80%! Grrr! I even attempted to do some spraying (I had no shield so I sprayed into a plastic cup, allowing the resulting mist to waft down into the container) and nothing is helping! Please any advice appreciated. Temp is fine, but humidity persisting at just below 80. Here is some additional info just in case it helps.
Strain: Z
Substrate: Jars purchased pre-filled online
Fruiting chamber: Rubbermaid tub w/wet perlite
Thermometer/hygrometer readings: ~72degG/~78%RH
One additional note, although most sources I've read said to use approximately 1 inch of perlite at bottom, I used the full amount that came w/the kit I bought. This leaves roughly 2.5-3 inches on bottom, but I didn't think it'd be a problem since I soaked it thoroughly, strained it, and even added enough water for about an inch of saturation at the bottom. Help please!

You could have to much water, or to little. If your cakes are sinking down into the perlite, theres to much.

There needs to be a 'wicking' action.

Mist your terrarium, not into a cup. Dont worry about a drip shield, you will be fine. Mist the sides of the terrarium.

OK now I'm confused..... i thought that the perlite had to be over the the water...like the PMP TEK says if your perlite is not floating over the water...then the water would be over the perlite????
Any one clarify please??????

1 1/2 - 2 inches of perlite...1/4 - 1/2 inch of water.

you could get a humidifier from somewhere like K-Mart or Bed Bath and Beyond (where I got mine) and just keep it on high. Get the kind the shoots out a cloud like mist of water vapor. Withing a few hours it will have your entire room above 80% humidity. You could also just shoot the clouds that come out right into the chamber for a little bit.

DiMiTriSouljah is right on the money with the perlite water ratio. As for your proplem, Mychotic, I would say it is your hygrometer. I have seen at least 10 times since I have been viewing the boards that this has happened. One person even went and bought a humidifier and the reading was the same, turned out he had a bad hygrometer.

Yeah, cheap hygrometers are a source of much unnecessary frustration in this hobby. If you have only one top-of-the-line piece of equipment in your set-up, I would suggest that the hygrometer is it.

Try a Fluckers temp/hygrometer (for reptiles). Got mine from petco for 15.99. Pretty accurate unlike dial hygrometers.

our humidity never went above 80% and we had a perfect grow, we are ready for the 4th flush now and it looks like we are gonna get it soon.
