casing question...
    #381011 - 08/28/01 07:39 PM (23 years, 5 months ago)

Hi there, I have started two types of cases for my 2nd flush. One is the wafer tek & the other is the PF double ended deal. My question is, do I need to expose the cases to any light right now or should I wait until I see any growth in the casing? I am going ahead with the light until I hear otherwise.
Thanks in advance for helping me out with this and may peace always be within you, TUT

Most people let the casing sit for a few days, until mycelium starts popping up through it. Then, these few mycelium "patches" are topped with some moist vermiculite, do that the rest of the mycelium can catch up. Once half of the casing's top has mycelium growing, you can expose to light. I'm sure exposing them to light right from the start wont do any harm. That's how it is in nature anyways...

casings should be covered (poke a few holes in whatever youre covering with) and let sit in darkness, no air exchange, til the casing layer is almost colonized. light tells the casing to pin; if you want an even pinset, you should wait til the casing layer is pretty even til you initiate pinning (by introducing light and fresh air exhange). patch early parts of the casing that pop up with more casing material.

*BUT*- i think pf's double ended "deal" is a cake with verm on the top and the bottom- if its a cake youre speaking about dont worry about the light. whats the wafer tek?
