Thistle as substrate?

Can thistle be used as a substrate.I was toying with the idea of using thistle in place of Finch seed.It has a lot more nutriants than Millot seed.Has anyone used it before,Do U think it would work?Does anyone know if there would be a problem with contams?Thanks in addvance.....

There are many types of thistle. Perhaps it may depend on what type of thistle or is that getting too complicated? Head lettuce is actually a thistle if that illustrates my point. Maybe some is better that others?
