i used to live in S&P, but every so often i poke my head in there and its just a big wit fest. who can have the witiest retort, who can pull the words out from underneath your post the best, who can blah blah blah...
i cant say i enjoy at all anymore. i even TRIED to enjoy it. nope.
there are some people in S&P id love to meet in person, but i dont think the forum serves any kind of real purpose anymore. and if it does, its so diluted you cant even taste it.

They should rename it the Axe to Grind Forum. The free exchange of philosophical and spiritual ideas is one thing but a snobbish circle jerk is something else entirely. I used to enjoy that forum for a long time but the ego stroking got to be too much for me to stand, some people don't realize that there is a fine line between being witty and being an a-hole.

eh...its just that when discussing things like that...arguments are inevitable...that all philosophy is...a bunch of people arguiong about ideas that could or could not be true....but ther eis really no way to prove it...so we try to use words to make our ideas sound best...because thats the only way we know how ot do it.
its entertaining and i love reading other peoples ideas.

I try not to post in S&P any more. Whenever I do it feels like a herpes outbreak.

maybe its the fact that philosophizing requires a more-than-normal brain activity that disturbs you the most? who knows...

You know, you sure do have a big ego for a supposedly "spiritual" person.

Logic is the language of philosophy. It is how philosophical ideas are expressed. Many people confuse speculation with philosophy. And btw, there is nothing anti-spiritual about logic either.

i'm an unsuccessful spiritual person sometimes i unleash my ego, and it shows...
nevertheless, what i said previously is true, you do need a sharp mind to accurately take on philosophical debates, because if you don't, its true that some people will gladly take your agument down. this is why, i think, some people disregard S&P, either because tehy aren't sharp minded enough to go there, or because they can't stand being taken down.

Logic is the language of philosophy.
If that were the case computers would be philosophic geniuses.

You can call it that, but that doesn't make it so. Logic follows a certain set of rules. Pieces of information are put together in such a manner as to minimize the chances of reaching false conclusions. To break the rules of logic is to commit a logical fallacy.

Care to elaborate on your comment that logic is spiritual?
Simple. If it is spiritual to seek out truth(and I assume most would agree that spirituality should involve truth), then logic is spiritual in that it helps us identify false beliefs.

Thank you for demonstrating that logical fallacy. Let's look at these premises and you see if you can point out the error:
1. Logic is the language of philosophy. 2. Logic is the language of computers. 3. Therefore, computers are philosophical geniuses.
BTW, I thought the language of computers was C++ or something like that.

A-men brother... I'm new here and I've already come to love the pub more then S&P I feel far below all that, like water running off a ducks back. there are a couple of guys that are cool I've noticed they're keeping it up, making it interesting. I think shroomery is a very cool place to learn a lot of stuff and chit-chat to some cool folks, wadding through the bullocks is just a thing you gotta do in life. Might as well make it as fun as pos.

looks like a lot of us share the same experience with that forum... i used to really be into it, heck i even was a moderator for quite some time... but there came a point where everything in there seemed to be ego driven... when spiritually speaking the ego is the one thing i want to keep under control...
good to see i'm not the only one who stopped attending that forum for this reason..
