Cold incubation and Fruiting

I was going to attempt filling a rubbermaid bin full of mycobags...and let them grow in 55-75 degree weather...aside from slow colonization times will this impact the size of fruits? and yields?

Yes, it will. Older mycelium tends to have less output compared to younger, faster-growing mycelium. I would suggest looking at Magash's Tub-in-Tub and Poorman's Pod. These are both inexpensive ways of damn near guaranteeing a good yield.

do you own an extension cord?

there are not battery powered heaters because it takes too much electricity.
there are extension cords.

Yeah, there are. Do a search on google. I'd check up on heating pads and perhaps solar-heating.

What about only cold fruiting? If you pop out of a TiT some nice fully colonized cakes, can you fruit them at 60-65 ok?

You should be running about 10 degrees warmer than that...try tossing a couple of blankets over your terrarium if you can't afford to build a temperature controlled fruiting chamber.
They'll still fruit at that temperature...but not nearly as well.

i searched on google for heat pads...i found reusable heat pads....i was thinking ordering 8 of them....they last about 2 hours...and if they are in a bin with 10 mycobags....and a blanket over them....im sure it will hold the heat....long enough for me to put another one in there....the cool thing is they are reusable....once i exhaust 4 of them....i just have to boil em for 10-15mins and then i can use them again....its really not much work.....just have to change the heat pads every 4-5 hours
this should maintain a heat of about 10 degrees warmer than what i planned on....soo temps should be 65-80 degrees....

It's going to be a pain-in-the-ass, and opening the incubator that much will expose your growing mycelium to more light than it should have. Perhaps heating pads aren't the way to go afterall, I was under the impression that they lasted longer than that.
So you have absolutely no access to electricity? I'll try to think of something else if this is the case.

well.....since they are already in bags....if i open the case in complete darkness....with lets say....a flashlight pointing away from the myc...
maybe this will work? and keep them under exposed
maybe if i just wrap the thing up in blankets....it will boost the temp...
and no...no access to electricity...except a 1920's socket....which is about 20x the size of an electric socket...and no cord will fit in it....as for an extension cord....i dont wanna be tripping all over it as it will be stretched all over my house.... thanks for your help dimi.... oh yea and solar heaters cost hundreds of dollars:-)

Yeah, it will work, but you're probably in for a bit of a long haul. I would definitely recommend using blankets in your case. A regular-sized comforter seems to increase the temperature about 4-6 degrees if it's draped all around your incubator.
Try to use as little light as possible, as Psilocybe spp. are photosensitive and react to very small amounts of light (although it seems that the temp drop/rH increase are the two major factors in initiating pinning). Use light in the red spectrum if at all possible.

i think i will do a little trial and error testing with this....im going to insulated the incubator best i can with a thermometer in it....and check to see how much of an increase i will get

im not going to rule out the reusable heat pad option....they still seem pretty good to me:-) and ill just put some red syran wrap over my flashlight to get a red light:-) or just buy a red light off ebay or something..... thanks for the ideas.

Yup, as of now the blanket+heating pad idea seems to be your best bet. If I get ambitious I'll do a little research on alternative heating methods for you. Take care and good luck. Feel free to PM me with questions/progress.

Maybe try an icechest instead of a rubbermaid. It will preserve heat better. It is what I use, but mine is inside with fish tank heater in a pickle jar inside.
