maintaining proper ph level

i was just reading that the finer the powder of your ph buffer, the faster it acts to change ph. the opposite side of that is the fact that it does not last nearly as long as grit would.
considering that i don't want to change materials, (fine oyster shells), is there any way i can bring it back to the 7's by applying a solution of distilled water and calcium carbonate?
or, by any other means?

Hmm, you mean bring it back to 7 after time?
I think the oyster shells are long lasting enough, and to use calcium, or hydrated lime as short term buffer, especially with peat based mixes.

"enough" might be three or four flushes, but if the only thing holding me back frome five or six is ph, i might need to be more careful.
