Maybe it's cause Jews have been massacred and hated for thousands of years and now the western governments understand that it's payback time for the Jews. Payback is a bitch, ain't it?

Trying to dominate the middle east politically and militarily is easier with only one enemy. How would we be able to do it trying to fight the Jews and the Muslims/Palestinians/whatever else is over there at the same time?

Thanks Ziddy. You see the implications of this?
Zappa: What are you talking about? Here's another page that lists countries who have violated UN resolutions.
Quote:
(Editor's Note: In its effort to justify its planned invasion of Iraq, the Bush administration has emphasized the importance of enforcing UN Security Council resolutions. However, in addition to the dozen or so resolutions currently being violated by Iraq, a conservative estimate reveals that there are an additional 88 Security Council resolutions about countries other than Iraq that are also currently being violated. This raises serious questions regarding the Bush administration's insistence that it is motivated by a duty to preserve the credibility of the United Nations, particularly since the vast majority of the governments violating UN Security Council resolutions are close allies of the United States. Stephen Zunes <zunes@usfca.edu>, University of San Francisco professor and Middle East Editor for Foreign Policy in Focus (online at www.fpif.org),compiled the following partial list of UN resolutions that are currently being violated by countries other than Iraq.)

We went to war with Iraq over a decade ago. We broke it off under a conditional ceasefire, and Iraq didn't live up to their side of the bargain.
edit - I didn't reply to the correct post. My point was about the post where it was critical of Bush policy because other countries had violated UN resolutions. I don't think that any of those countries had just participated in a war with the United States. That gets you special treatment in my house, and the send you directly to the front of the que.

Further, most of these resolutions are of the "deplores", "condemns", "censures", etc. nature. The few that are of the "demands" or calls on" type have been mostly complied with (Israel IS out of Lebanon, now Syria occupies it and abets the assassination of Lebanese politicians). I don't know whether they had their parade (#250) or whether they allowed the mayors back in (#468 & #484).
How do you "comply" with being censured or deplored? Feh, more bilge from Jew hating swine.

S/Res/1134 of 23/10/1997 Condemnation of Iraq's behaviour, further sanctions threatened.
S/Res/1115 of 21/06/1997 Condemnation of Iraq's refusal to grant access and interviews.
S/Res/1060 of 12/06/1996 Condemnation of Iraq's refusal to grant inspection access.
S/Res/1051 of 27/03/1996 Approval of export /import monitoring mechanism for Iraq.

Well if Israel doesn't have to comply with condemnation, why should have Iraq?
Yay, the withdrew from the invasion of their neighbor(but first massacre-ing a bunch of innocents), but I guess those '67 borders (with its moral highground) just isn't as appetizing as taking more palestinian land.

I have no idea.
S/Res/1060 of 12/06/1996 Condemnation of Iraq's refusal to grant inspection access.
Apparently either did Iraq, and they got invaded for it.
-------------
Of course thats just the spinster in me.
There actually seems to be 2 different kinds:
Resolution 270: condemns Israel for air attacks on villages in southern Lebanon.
Resolution 271: condemns Israel's failure to obey UN resolutions on Jerusalem.
the first not being something you can really comply with, (short of not doing it again)...
The second is an example of something you can comply with, in this case Israel hasn't.
I think the most important of the Resolutions against Israel are these ones:
Palestinian Refugees have the right to return to their homes in Israel. General Assembly Resolution 194, Dec. 11, 1948
Israel's occupation of Palestine is Illegal. Security Council Resolution 242, Nov. 22, 1967
Israel's settlements in Palestine are Illegal. Security Council Resolution 446, March 22, 1979
Reaffirmation of a Palestinian State Security Council Resolution 1397, March 12, 2002

I think if you look into it the UN has been VERY onesided against Israel, particularly because of a large Arab block that among other things refuse to aknowledge suicide bombings as terrorism. Alexander Solzenitsen put it very well, the UN is the United Regimes, and Syria and the former Iraq had as many votes as the US in the General Assembly where these resolutions are passed. If all the despot arab countries ban together they pass as many bullshit resolutions as they want within the general assembly.
Remember when Yasser Arafat got a standing ovation? And his plane hijackings and murders earned him a seat in the assembly? I think that puts things into perspective.
