light question for hippie3 tek
    #380568 - 08/28/01 08:42 AM (23 years, 26 days ago)

In the hippie 3 micro tek at the PF site it says to expose the invitro myc to light. I am wondering if it is ok to leave them exposed to light for the entire invitro process 24/7? Also, when you put them back into the jars after harvesting the very young shrooms is there a co2 problem? Anyone with experience doing micro tek? Is is less productive? What is the average harvest doing a terraruim vs. hippie 3 micro tek? Thanks

24 hours of light will be fine as will just a few or whatever light comes in your window.

IMO there is nothing to recommend this technique other than secrecy. I find it hard to imagine a situation where space is so tight that you can't use a very small, or a series of very small, terrariums. You can find small plastic tubes that 8 or so cakes will fit in. Even birthing them into quart jars would be better.

The cakes need about 1 hour of light a day. 24 hours is not needed, but it wont harm your cake.

There's no co2 problem, as long as you leave the lids on loose so that air exchange can occur.

Yes, it is less productive. Birthing your cakes in a coke bottle would produce bigger yeilds. I'm not sure about the average harvest of a birthed cake compared to an invitro, because there are many factors that will alter the harvest amount.

If you can, I would suggest getting a tiny terarium (you can use a garbage can or a small container even, as long as it is tall enough for mushrooms to grow. This way, you can case those cakes, and get more than triple the yeilds you would get going invitro...
