Softmod an xbox
    #3805670 - 02/20/05 03:18 AM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Recently, it has come to my attention that you can mod an xbox without a mod chip. The method's I have read about are the 'hot-swap' with the hard drive, or using a usb memory stick to load linux on to the box. Which method is better?

Screwed mine up doing softmod over LAN, but thats only cuz my roomate turn it off after I deleted C and E drive.

Either or will work fine as long as you do it properly, but softmod is a lot less stable than hardmod.

Softmods are more risky than a modchip. Just throw down the 60 bucks for a solderless chip if you got an early version Xbox. If you got the 1.6 version I'd defenitly look into a softmod, unless you're not scared of a soldering iron (I sure am)

I know nothing about softmods but ALL the info you need is at
www.xbox-scene.com
I went from knowing nothing about xbox mods to having one installed and running in a week. I took the easier and safer route of buying a chip.

Good luck

I have a fairly new xbox. It is the halo edition. It has something rediculous like 19 solder points...

I found a site where you can send the xbox away and in a two week turn around they send it back with a hard mod. Maybe I will look into this.

The new modchips are super simple to install. Anyone with a 9 dollar radioshack soldering iron can install them. They even come with wire and solder in the kits.

Get an xenium ice modchip with the easy install package. 45.00 bucks plus shipping, easy as can be to install.

it should just be the LPC port and 3 others (2 optional ie LAN and HDD LED)...the D0 is the 'hard' part to solder, if you solder under the motherboard its a bit cleaner and easier.... actually it took me longer to desolder my entire lpc because it was filled...
