Where to buy everything
    #3803656 - 02/19/05 04:56 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Hey Guys,

I am looking to start my second grow in 3 years and I am looking for advice on where to buy certain goods.

Last time I grew I did the standard PF Tek. Didn't get very much unfortunatly but still had some sucess. I want to try casing this time because it seems to be low risk and high yeild.

My old pressure cooker was a a rather crappy one that would only get to about 11 psi so I am going to get a better one from WalMart. I cant afford or justify a $200 one right now.

Birdseed and Red Rye I can get from a pet store and a whole foods. How about straw? Has anyone had any luck with straw from a typical plant store? We dont have any feed stores where I am at so that is out of the question. What about horse/cow poo. Any brand of sotre bought kind tha is ideal for growing. Some have fungacides inside of them that is why I am asking.

Also any recomendations on brandname tuperware? I am going to try the double tub meathod so finding some that mate together well would be a big help. The polyfill I can get from WalMart too.

I am going to try and keep it simple. Let me know if you have any recomendations.

Boglyn

A good pressure cooker is hard to find. Or should I say a big pressure cooker. A new cooker from a cookware retailer is going to be way too much and a new cheap one likely wont accomodate the jars used for canning.
I found a large dinosaur on Ebay but only after weeks of watching/waiting ( like fishing). Even then I had to replace the gauge. Be sure to ask alot of questions of the seller because using an unsafe PC can be dangerous, ask for more pictures to make sure you know what they are offering. The PC must be free of all cracks and pock marks. I suggest a metal on metal seal so you dont have to worry about a crappy rubber seals which may not even be in production if the PC is older. There are large older model pressure cookers (18 + quart) that come around for under $50. It will likely be your largest investment also.

Hope this helps. :goodluck:

jars are at albersons or most supermarkets somewhere.

Brown rice is available at health food stores (don't get BRF) just grind up the rice in a coffee grinder from a garage sale or something (used like 5-10 bones).

Vermiculte is available at gardening centers
WBS is available at petco or costo for 40lb $10<

Paul Stamets has a few of these.

That is John Allen...aka mjshroomer in the picture.

I'd love to have a building like Paul's...out on some property in the woods.
