Temperature for storing dried quantity
    #3803556 - 02/19/05 04:34 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Hi All,
I would like to get some opinions... If you're in like a dorm and you could get a mini-fridge to store some drieds in, would that be way better than room temp, or just a little better? If you could spend more $$ (twice as much) and get a mini-fridge with a mini-freezer, would that little mini-freezer be way better than the fridge (twice as much?), or just a little better than the fridge? I appreciate your nput.

I wouldn't spend the money on a fridge. I would spend the money on a vacuum packer (ie foodsaver or black & decker) and get the wide mouth jar attachment. Dry your shrooms to cracker dry, then vacuum pack them into widemouth pint or quart jars. You could also vacuum pack them into bags, but I would recommend glass over plastic bags.
As long as you are not storing them at high temps, oxygen and moisture are your mushrooms greatest enemies. Vacuum packing to jars will let you store mushrooms for years with little to no potency loss.

Thanks for the feedback.  I can control moisture and oxygen a lot easier than temps, and it looks like a lot cheaper too.

Just keep the temp moderate and stable.
And making sure the bag(s) are sealed and dry is a whole hell of a lot easier.
