The USS Jimmy Carter!! We all remember how tough and steadfast he was. Does anybody else think this is an ironic name for a badass attack submarine?

$3.2B USS Jimmy Carter Enters Fleet
1 hour, 31 minutes ago Top Stories - AP
By CARA RUBINSKY, Associated Press Writer
GROTON, Conn. - The USS Jimmy Carter entered the Navy's fleet Saturday as the most heavily armed submarine ever built, and as the last of the Seawolf class of attack subs that the Pentagon (news - web sites) ordered during the Cold War's final years.
The $3.2 billion Jimmy Carter was commissioned Saturday, the first named after a living ex-president. Carter, himself a former submariner during his time in the Navy, was on hand for the ceremony signaling the end of an era in submarining.
The 453-foot, 12,000-ton submarine has a 50-torpedo payload and eight torpedo tubes. And, according to intelligence experts, it can tap undersea cables and eavesdrop on the communications passing through them.
It can reach speeds of more than 45 knots and carry Tomahawk cruise missiles and anti-submarine torpedoes, and it is engineered to be quieter than the other Seawolves, making it better for surveillance.
John Pike, a military analyst with globalsecurity.org, said the ceremony closes the book on the big-submarine era.
"It was part of our strategy on how we were going to win World War III. It was a significant component in our response to the evil empire," he said.
In eastern Connecticut, a region steeped in submarine history and the home to the Electric Boat shipyard, which built and launched the Seawolves, some fear the Pentagon will close the submarine base as it looks to shrink the submarine fleet and buy smaller, cheaper subs.
"It's hard to find a civilian that doesn't have some connection to the sub force," said Bud Fay, who owns a diner, car wash and laundry not far from the base gates in Groton.
To ensure that the last Seawolf was not obsolete before it hit the water, the Pentagon delayed production to install a 100-foot hull extension that military analysts say equips the Jimmy Carter to replace the USS Parche, one of the fleet's premier spy subs.
The Parche was decommissioned in October. The Jimmy Carter will be based out Kitsap, Wash., the Parche's former home.

I think this is hilarious, but nowhere near as apropos as naming a sub after that great submariner Edward M. Kennedy, the fearless commander of the Battle of Chappaquiddick, (Damn, I can't get this fucking bottle open. Help me out here Mary Jo. What the fuck......oh shit, glu.....)
Carter, on the other hand, should really have a Bradley anti-rabbit vehicle named after him.

USS Jimmy Carter sunk
(AP) - Earlier this morning the USS Jimmy Carter was engaging in war exercises when it was attacked by a rabbit in the water. The crew of the USS Jimmy Carter put up a valiant fight but the rabbit prevailed. The U.S. Navy had no comment.

I heard that the submarine will only go in circles and shoot only after it has exhausted all attempts to avoid decision making.

I think the decision is stated bold as brass by naming it Jimmy Carter. Go search "Carter doctrine" in context to oil peak and back drop that to US forces in the oil rich middle east, with a possible "shock & awe" on Iran and/or Syria extention, to the game plan...umm.

What do you name a ship designed to sink?
Jimmy Carter.

Jimmy Carter Attack Sub Armed with Nerf Missiles by Scott Ott
(2005-02-16) -- The U.S. Navy on Saturday will commission its newest nuclear-powered attack submarine, the Jimmy Carter, with many new features, including multiple-warhead Nerf missiles.
President Carter, who brought peace to the middle east, vigorously defended America's right to give away the Panama Canal and, in 1994, convinced North Korea to abandon talking about its nuclear weapons, said he's honored to have his name on "one of the most powerful peacemaking devices on earth."
Jimmy Carter is the first of the American Seahare-class subs, featuring a high-tech sonar system which alerts enemy forces to its presence and a safety device on the Nerf missiles which allows firing only after an enemy missile impact.
"This new generation of nuclear submarines is designed to use trust in our enemies as our first line of defense," said an unnamed Navy spokesman.
President Carter has invited leaders from North Korea and Iran to the commissioning ceremony, during which former First Lady Rosalyn Carter, in a time-honored Navy tradition, will give the first order to "man our ship, bring her to life then park her over there by the dock!"

I think the USS Clinton would just rub up against other ships making them feel nervous.

So, if war machines named after presidents were to assume personality traits of the administration, then George Bush Jr.'s future ship should attack foreign ships and coastlines without provocation nor reason, right?
