time it takes to see mycelium growth
    #3802752 - 02/19/05 10:01 AM (11 years, 10 months ago)

How long should it take to see myceluim growth on rye. Assuming everthing is sterilized correctly, inoculated with a syringe to 500ml rye grain jars and kept at 76 to 79 F?

dude, you crack me up

A friend of a friend was about to throw away his rye jars cus he didn't see any growth for what felt like and eternity.  But as he picked them up to throw them away he saw a few kernels sticking together with white inbetween them.... MYCELLIUM YAY.  My friend of a friend is a super inpatient person, and get frustrated easily about that stuff.  Especially when he sees people on the shroomery with myc after 36 hours.

I often wonder about the hours when a man sits alone, watching the smoke of a cigarette, thinking. I wonder what great things have come alive from such hours. When a man thinks, there is a spot of fire alive in his mind---and it is proper that he should have the burning point of a cigarette as his one expression."

5 years, 7 months, 13 days, 9 hours, 43 minutes, 21 seconds 42 nano seconds- if you are :eek:tweaking .

Optimal everything............
1st jar is spore innoc /Day 6
2nd jar is live LC innoc shaken /Day 6

Vendor syringes are usualy very clear, so - often you don't get as many germination start points, or as fast a colonization - as this.

Good thing to do, is innoc, place jars in cardboard box, tape shut, write date, incubate - don't look - eyeball - fondle for 10 days. The more you look - fondle, worry & eyeball, the slower it goes.

Yup, my foaf is a 5 squirt guy, one each side of jar, one down center, just for that reason. If it's down the glass, you can see wahzzup in it.

I think it would speed things up if you got your temps up a lil. Like say to 84.

84 would make the about 86. the temp you have them at right now should be ok but try to get it between 80-82 that would make the jars between 82-84.

Keep incubator at 82 degrees. Build your own for cheap. See my pics on this forum. First Time Grow Great Pics.

if ya got free heat( some apartments) put jars in a cardboard box turn the heat up and place against your heating register. works good.

^^^^^^^

I woudn't reccomend putting a cardboard box against a heater. Fire hazard and all.

i have done this for a the last 9 months. if the heat is set at 85 f it is not hot enought to start a fire. if your heater is extreely hot then dont do it, but most floor-heat registers do not get even near being hot enough to cause fire.

What do you mean by a heat register? Is that like a baseboard heater? Or are you talking about a heater vent from a central heating unit. Even though you haven't started a fire yet, does not mean that it can't happen. IMHO it would be better to use a TiT. Much safer.

yes i am talking about a baseboard heater, where i come from they are called registers. it puts off 85f heat and warms the box to that temp. it is warm but still cool enough so it does not even come close to burning your skin when held against it. the box does not get hot yet is warm enought to incubate jars.

Thats good, ive seen baseboard heaters that get hot as fuck. Thats the main reason i say to use caution when doing so.
