i have successfully put holes in my tank. i got drill bits from the hardware store for cutting holes in glass. they were a bit spendy. $17 for a 1/2 inch bit. it came with no instructions so i put masking tape on both sides of the glass and kept a constant flow of water on the operation.

i know a few people who cut glass and X24 said it perfectly. buy some glass cutting drill bits; don't put too much pressure on it when you cut and keep water on it. the water serves 2 purposes.
#1 Keep the glass from heating up and cracking kinda like lube
#2 Keeps glass particals from flying in you face. (wear eye protection anyways)

Did you make 1/2 inch holes or is there a way to make a larger hole with the 1/2 inch bit?, what was your experience with hole size?

Do you use a filter over the hole, if so what? Do you use any kind of air exchange? peace.  :stoned:

I was thinking on using fish tank filters, installed one on top and one on bottom of the terrarium for CO2 removal and fresh air entrance... how about that?

Im not familiar with the filter your talking about, got any pics?

Personally i would only keep holes only on the bottom of the tank so that the co2 leaves before the oxygen does, and so that the humidity can still have a buildup.  i wonder how tyvek stands up to humidity and air flow.

Peace.  :stoned:

standard glass bits that you find at hardware stores are pretty pricy given their
construction, they are more suited to tiles and ceramics than glass but they
will work, a 1/2 inch bit in my area is about $15 but the risks for breakage
aer much higer that for fits that are designed for larger holes, I dont recomend
enlarging a hole with a hardware store bit

the ones my neighbor (a glass cutter) uses look more like this, a diamond bit
they are designed for oil or water use on glass, the bits run from about $80
to $350 per bit, far to costly when there are other options.

I was in a petsmart a few weeks ago and noticed a large reptile tank with 4 holes that were covered with plastic grills, unfortunately I cant find a
photo online but the price was about $60 in the store. simply pop off the
plastic grills, cut the tyvek to fit, silicon them in place and popr the grills
back on, it'll save you loosing the one you have and it seems well suited for the job
