Colonization
    #3802398 - 02/19/05 02:12 AM (19 years, 1 month ago)

My WBS jars ar about 75% colonized. Myc looks very healthy no cantams that I can see yet. My question is, is it normal that the matter inside the jars seems to be kinda shrinking?  Could this be due to moister loss. The jars where full and now the seem to have pulled away from the glass by prolly about 1-2mms. Also the myc seems to be very fluffy and cotton like, may be the cause of both of these problems is because i packed to WBS too loose? Any input would be appreaciated. Thanks.

PS I don't think the humidity matters during incubation anyway but it is around 70% so I don't think that there could be water loss from the air being too dry.

You are right. Humidity doesn't matter that much during incubation. The shrinking away is totally normal. Keep on trucking, man. All is good. May the mushroom goddess bless you in your endeavors.

A small amount of shrinking is quite normal. Also the fluffy mycellium is fairly normal. I wouldn't worry about either one of your concerns.

And if you notice more shrinking and tiny little ropes in there, you'll seee rhizomorphs, mean agressive growth, helps against contams usually

Yeah this is my first time, I've always just hunted in fields before. I was waiting till I felt confident enough and had enough knowledge before just wasting my time and money. I was sure to read all the teks and FAQs so I wouldn't ask any annoying questions. Know what I mean. I think by reading everything and being as sterile as possible is the reason none of my jars have feel to contams yet. Know what I mean.

I plan on casing to straw/poo and maybe some coir too.
