What's this on my caps?
    #3801766 - 02/19/05 01:33 AM (12 years, 3 months ago)

All I know is, this can't be good. Anyone know what this is? Any health risks if one's cat were to eat the unaffected mushrooms, the ones without spots on their caps? Or if one's cat ate only the stems, which were unblemished, would I have reason to be concerned? Thank You.

It is bacterial contamination, the so called bacterial blotch.
I would remove those spots by cutting them away before drying.

It is encouraged when the caps become wet during the fruiting phase.

Thank you, Anno. I tossed those mushrooms that were totally covered in the blotch, and cut off the bad parts of others. What I salvaged I dried as quickly as possible.
I will try to lower the humidity a little in my fruiting chamber, cause I don't want any more of this. Again, thanks!!!
