color change
    #380133 - 08/27/01 07:57 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

a friend has a cake on some perlite in his terrarium and some of the mushrooms were growing sideways as they often do with the cap more upright. at the "elbow," the mushshrooms were actually touching the perlite and after he picked them there was a black spot on the perlite almost like a burn mark.
wtf?

Most likely it's just some of the spores being released by the cap, if it's more of a purple/dark purple then its definety just the spores.

"And then you will realize the truth; there is no spoom."

Are all spore syringes full of colored spores. Mine were totally clear. Better not be bogus!

not all syringes are colored, usually the ones you order are because they delute the solution so you cant like, use half then fill it up with sterile water then use it again, because that is very possible. the ones you order are clear because spore companies profit from it.

yea, the cap opened and about an inch of the stalk was vertical while the majority was horizontal. It can't be the spores because the burn mark is only exactly where the stem was touching the perlite....odd

it was most likely the perlites reaction with a carbon compound.
