 What is the matter with me?

OK, here is the story...maybe someone can help me out. When I was younger I took mushrooms several times but not once did I ever trip. My friends would but I never did. So, years go past and my boyfriend wants to take some. Everything goes fine & it was a fun experience. We try it again a few months later & it wasn't any fun at all. I think mostly it was the other person we were with though so I don't really count it. Try it again a few months ago, had a great trip...until I started coming down. My body just freaked out! I was fine mentally but I couldn't breathe, my muscles started twitching, my heart felt like it was going to blow out...really a bad time. So, months go by & my friends convince me that "maybe I just took too much." I guess I knew in my heart that wasn't the case but I wanted to try it again. So, again I did but this time, no trip just the really bad physical stuff! Same symptoms, body twitching, couldn't breathe, heart pounding, probably as close to dying as I ever want to get again. It was so bad that we had to induce vomiting both times and once it was out of my system, I was dramatically improved. Now, no one else that took them from the same batch had any side effects and they all enjoyed the ride. I just feel poisoned. Could there be something about my body that doesn't metabolize them the same way and, if so, does anyone know what? Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it!

I dont know..
Problems like this happen when drugs are being used..many other members here in the shroomery have posted topics on problems they have had.
Hope you can somehow overcome this problem, because not being able to do shrooms would really suck for me.

i dunno, call me a logical thinker, but twice in a row means dont 'try' them anymore goofball, untill you can find out whats causing it, on any medications? MAOI? do you have reactions to other drugs? alergic to any drugs? (over the counter, prescription, illegal)

Well, that is what I am trying to do! Once I figured might be a fluke, twice means something is up. I'm not going to do it again until I can figure out what it is...which is why I am asking for help from you guys! I'm not on any other meds, smoke pot fairly often but not constantly, only allergic to codiene but that causes me to break out in a rash, not go into lung/heart failure! I've never had a reaction like this to anything so, outside of the fact that it means I can't enjoy mushrooms, it kinda freaks me out! Anyway, that is the story. Thanks for your input!

well, what type of mushroom are you eating, and how much are you eating? How are you eating them?

shrooming demands a price. anxiety is mine. yours sounds
like a allergy. muscle twitching is normal, as well as some
increased heartrate but not like that. shrooms might also
bring out anxiety attacks in you. do a lighter dose and if
theres nuthin happening, its your head. otherwise sucks to
be you.

I can think of 2 possibilities:
1) You are allergic to mushrooms. I have allergies and have been unlucky enough to experience anaphalactic shock on a few occaisions. Your symptoms sound somewhat like anaphalaxis.
2) It's possible that this is ALL IN YOUR HEAD. Don't forget that psilocybin is a powerful mind-altering chemical. I've had episodes where I FEEL like I can't breath, or that my heart is about to explode. I've had twitches like you said, all those things. Sometimes even from marijuana. Every time I get someone to check my heartbeat, they tell me it's fine but just a little fast. Could be all in your head.

Thanks for your reply. I considered that maybe it was all in my head but not only do I think I seem entirely lucid when it happens (as lucid as one can be when their heart is about to expode) but the people around me say I am too (even the ones NOT tripping). Funny thing, last time I was the one that had to calm everybody else down because THEY thought I was going to die! What a buzzkill I was! I am leaning to the allergy thing which then I would agree, it sucks to be me. Oh well, I'll just keep smoking pot since I doubt my doc would appreciate me coming in and saying "Doc, I think I have an allergy to psilocybin!" Thanks for all your help. If anyone hears of any other possibility, I'd appreciate you responding.

Oh, one more thing...I only took a gram this time. When I took 3 grams last time, it was even worse. At least I tripped that time! This time I just got sick!

If you cannot narrow down the cause of this in medications and reactions to other drugs, then perhaps your body simply doesn't take too well to psilocybin -- things like that happen, and such is life. I, for instance, have a severe reaction to THC -- a couple of tokes will knock me on my ass, I've simply learned to ease pot out of my regime. If your body simply doesn't like mushrooms, then there are a fair bit of alernatives -- investigate them.

Yeah -- though they're not the same high, and I'm sure there are people who prefer either side of the lsd-mushroom spectrum, it is similiar enough to be considered an 'alternative'.
