Here in sw BC, the Hobo is about the worst spider one will run into. Mistakenly thought for years to be the Brown Recluse, it carries a nasty bite. I got bit once and it took a couple years to fully heal.
The Cross spider is very common, they are all over the place and the webs seem to be face high. They have a bite like a horse fly and a white cross on the back.

spiders.....yech!

The Cross spider..... are they brown? Cause I have tons of spiders round here that seem to make webs face high and have an interesting design on their backs and stomachs.

Most everyone has Wolf spiders. We get them quite large here. I've seen them get the size of a half-pint jar lid in diameter. I believe I saw something once claiming that there was something in Wolf Spider venom that was degrading to human flesh and caused some of those bitten to gradually decline in health. It was bacterial or an enzyme reaction...something..I don't recall. I believe it was the species that builds tunnels in the garden and such though. Not the nomadic Wolf spider seen running around the lawn and fields though they look very similiar to me in appearance.

While we're on the subject, what about white-tailed spiders?

They are the ones which produce some really nasty shit in their venom which can (but not always) cause horrific on-going ulceration; I heared of one woman in her Sydney garden who was bitten on the end of her finger ; then the ulcers very slowly spread all the way up her arm...I think it's been 4 years since she was bitten!!!

No wonder the Govt. is using footage of deadly snakes, spiders, sharks, crocodiles, sea wasps, stonefish, blue-ringed octopus and god-knows-what-else to frighten off would-be asylum seekers!
