Genetic Traits
    #3798578 - 02/18/05 01:19 PM (19 years, 1 month ago)

If you have one strain and use it over and over and introduce something to it, say tric., and it eventually fights it, would the traits in that myc. be passed through the fruits and into the spores? I've heard of people getting a wood lovers to grow on other subs and vise versa, just curious if this would work, green mold use to be a prob. for me and now one my third grow, my myc. is fighting off some type of light browish mold, tric. and what looks like whispy cobb webb mold, just curious, o, and it most def., like all my other jars, has rhizo's everywhere....well thankx for ur input.

The mycelium already contains the genetic information for spore production. So basically, yes. But, this does not mean in any way you are producing a "new" strain capable of defeating contamination. If you started with strain "A", you are still going to end up with spores of strain "A"...

JSYK, trich is not light brownish...

The best thing you could do in your situation is to take a culture from the jar that is "kicking ass". In this way you will preserve the genetics (and possible anti-contamination traits) for future grows. If it is indeed contamination resistant, future TEKs should go well for you, and then you can forget about the spores...
