Will this work? *pics*

The timming for this first grow attempt wasn't the greatest and now that there are some nice looking mushrooms growing on the cakes I have to leave them for a week. My idea was to remove everything from the cakes, dunk and cold shock them, then put them back into the terrarium. Once they've been dunked will they be able to produce enough humnidity in a perlite rubbermaid terrarium to sustain themselves and will CO2 build up be a problem? This would have been the first flush, and if my idea would work, would whatever is taken off the cakes at this point have to be thrown out?
Here is a pic of what I might have to part with if my idea doesn't work.

they should be fine on humidity but i think constant co2 biuld up without any fresh air exchanges for a week straight will be a problem.fresh air helps keep contaminants from getting a foot hold on your cakes. i had this same problem a few months ago. i went away for about 12 days and i cafrefully instructed my girlfriend on how to care for them. she would forget to take care of them and they got neglected and alot of cakes grew cobweb mold.

wrong answers!!! Pick the shrooms. Dunk or do whatever you feel is right. Spray the hell out of the cakes and leave them with a layer of water on them. They will be fine. If you are lucky they will be loaded with pins when you get back. Those cakes dont produce enough co2 to be a problem

If the CO2 buildup will be a problem would there be a better chance of saving the cakes by bring the terrarium to a friends house? I wanted to avoid moving it but if its my only option would it be able to survive the transportation?

If you dont think CO2 will be a problem what about contamination? Without any air exchange for 7 days will contams still have a good chance of taking over?

it is better to have them die than to have your friends know about your "secret garden".
soem of those big pins look like they will be ready in a day or two. just let them grow until the last minute before you have to leave and pick them.

your prolly in a college dorm right. well what i do to keep mantainence down is i have cut a hole in the top of my rubbermaid container and filled it with a synthetic filter disc. now you prolly don't have time for synthetic filter discs to come in the mail so goto the post office and get a tyvek envelope for priority mailing and do the same.I'de prolly pick 'em 2 unless you want to do some spore prints then that's a whole other deal.IMHO just my opinion.

ask somebody who has more knowledge than me, but it may be possible to store them in the fridge and they will remain dormant til you get back, you would still probably need to pic everything off first though. i have never done this with cakes that have already started to fruit so get somebody elses opinion on this before actually trying.

just leave it, you will be fine. Trust me. Plus you wont learn if you dont try it. Pour some straight peroxcide in there if you are worried about contams. Get those cakes wet. Cakes love water drops on them. Noticethewater on this setup. Do you think these cakes stayed dry. Plus, this is what happens when one leave for 4 days without tending their cakes. you can only hope to be this lucky,

With a setup like that how many times a day do you fan? What would be the minimum amount because it might be possible for the terrarium to get fanned once a day, would that be enough with the filter design you suggested?

speaking of fanning, drill a 1/4-1/2 hole right about the perlite in the tub. Co2 will drain out of this hole. Gravity will do all the fanning for you.

Comming back after four days and having results like that would be great, but is your terrarium a simple rubbermaid with perlite on the bottom or did you have some other source of humidity and air exchange hooked up? After seeing your picture I think i will pour some peroxide in and just leave them alone. How much peroxide would i need and is the heavily diluted stuff from a drug store good enough? Would it also be beneficial to do the envelope filter idea?

honestly i don't really fan as much as i should because they aren't in my house(i don't have the space for the size setup) so sometimes i go 4-5 day without fanning but i would immagine you could go longer with the filter it allows gas exchange.

Wow, no one suggested this yet, crazy...
Pick everything off, then put it in your incubater....incubate it, and don't tell me it can't be done b/c some people do this to allow the sub. to colonize into shape and some do it to let the casing layer get taken over a lil quicker....when you get back, dunk/cold shock it and then fruit again , Gl

You think it would be best to take all the pins off then put the cakes back into the terrarium until i get back then dunk and cold shock them? There has been alot of conflicting advice so far. If it would work I would probably be able to fan and spray once a day, it is very inconvenient but I would do it just to not lose what i have accomplished so far. Without drilling any holes or picking all the pins will fanning and spraying once a day work out better than removing all pins?

I appreciate all the feedback from everybody but there is so much conflicting advice. Say i was able to come once a day for fanning and spraying, its inconvenient but a possiblity. Would that option be better than drilling holes, filters, picking all the pins and anything else that was suggested? Or is picking the pins off and leaving the cakes in a dark terrarium a better idea?

if you can get at it once a day you'll be fine. for a future grow try useing a filter made of tyvek, synthetic filter disc, or polyfill(just in case you are going to be away for a while again). good luck
