    #3798285 - 02/18/05 02:11 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

i was just thinking about purchasing a cutting of a san predro, but i was curious if the peruvian torch has any benefits?

any other active plants one with experience might reccomend to a novice in ethnobotanics?

Some say torch is more potent, but I would guess that pedro and torch have the same alkaloid levels. If I remember correctly, pedro will grow much faster. I'd go for the pedro.

As far as other ethnos go, I would reccomend betel nut, poppy, or coca novagranatense.

actually im pretty positive that peruvians grow faster. i intend on getting pedro myself cause its generally cheaper and im low on cash at the moment. as far as alkaloid content, they both vary so much you cant really be sure which is higher, peruvians have been tested both with higher levels and without any, or at least negligable. theres no way to know the content without testing it.

Pedros are pleantyfull and cheaper. So there a better pic to jumpstart a garden and prepare. Down the road a few torches in your collection wont hurt but they are a bit more expensive in most cases.

i would take the pedro. but as for the alkaloids, I think it depends on the exact genes of the cacti, and real specifics. the pedro or the torch could be more potent. who knows?
