Imminent Death
    #3797137 - 02/18/05 05:31 AM (12 years, 3 months ago)

I thought this needed its own thread after posting something in another thread....

If you were on a plane, and it malfunctioned and started plummeting to earth, what would you do for the last 5 minutes of living? Would you try to meditate? panic? try to quickly come to grips with your fatality? or masterbate? or other?

I think I would kind of be excited to learn what death would be like. Not that I want to die, but facing its inevitability on such a short time frame would certainly change things.

I would sing:

"This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I?ll never look into your eyes...again

Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...stranger?s hand
In a...desperate land

Lost in a roman...wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah

There?s danger on the edge of town
Ride the king?s highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby

Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake is long, seven miles
Ride the snake..."

And that is all that could be sung 'cause one would only have five minutes to sing it in and the song itself is over eleven minutes long...

One would have to be on acid as they sang it, of course, otherwise it just might not make very much sense.

:headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :satansmoking:
Peace. :mushroom2:

I wouldn't fear
For I've never known completeness

Wrapped in the warmth of you
Loving every breath of you

I'd put on my favorite music, something older perhapse, and try to find glory in it between the panic.

I would be trying to locate the liquor supply for a couple slammers.  Hell, now I can afford their $ 5 a drink, and with my last $ 40 might as well get eight rums and a coke.  Of course, the ONE time you need a stewardess to serve drinks, they probably are busy doing other things.

Hmm.. it sounds mightily Jim Jones of me, but if it were a passenger airplane with no escape I would start organizing those in doubt to unite and get ready for death. I'd lead those who want to hear into Death by organizing their/our final departure (not the means of death, we're crashing, but to reconcile with imminent death) before Deity smacks us into the concrete shrouded by a mist of blazing kerosene.
By organizing I mean making it a dignified closure, not acting to hasten or assure death

When alone in a propellor plane, if the propellor & wings came unstuck, I'd likely say my goodbyes to the world and maybe sing a little too.

Five minutes is LONG for crashing though! If I were the pilot and there genuinely would be NO escape for none I'd send it into a nosedive to assure a quick passing over.

If something's lethal anyway it best should be lethal ten times over to get it over with swiftly.

A five minute glide however suggests some passengers might survive if you crash it right. The cockpit would be toast by any means but I'd try to keep the survival probability rate high as it can be given the circumstances.
