CAN I SAVE A CONTAMINATED CAKE?? YES!!! HERE IS HOW UPDATED!!!!! 1

Take the cake and cut off the contaminated area, 1/8th deeper then the contamination.
The cake with so called contaminated area removed.
Preparing for warm soapy water bath. Notice soap near finger.
Floating in warm soapy warm
Preparing for alcohol spray.
Don't believe me? Here it is on fire.
Washed and burnt and contamination free cake.
I will post pics of the recovered cake tomorrow. Note... There is no bruising, this is a shiitake cake. Edit, its a portabella cake.
Here it is, I cased it in its pint jar but someone just questioned if it recovered so i pulled it out and scraped teh casing off of it. The slanted area is where it was cut and the so called infection was to take place.

A contaminated cake is not worth that much trouble.

did it to prove a point, the cake will come back whithin 48 hours. yes i know alcohol kills. Do you think the whole cake is dead or just the myc on the outside.

just the outside, but it can't be healthy for the cake. you should replace that step with str8 h2o2 dunk followed by a rince. but if it works for you then , I like mutants anyway

I had a contam'd cake before. I caught it in the early contam stages. I cut it out with a sterile knife and that was it, it fruited perfectly. 2 minutes of work to cut it out vs. the time to make a new cake and PC it...
people just dont try on certain things, and this is one of them. Too many people say "green, toss it" and thus all the new people adhear to the falseness.
we need more experimenters like you, otherwise nothing would ever change for the better.

those people are just being carefull... it doesent pay to think lightly of things that could potentialy kill you...
i did a similar experiment yesterday: 2 of my cakes were refusing to complete the colonising in 1 small part. there was a puddle of water forming and i decided to operate. i cut of the uncolonised part and 'sealed' the woulnd with a hot spoon and then i dunked them. will be fruiting today...

I've vigorously boiled cubes for over half an hour before. The trip came on in less than 10 min and was very intense.

The alcohol shouldn't cause mutants at this stage. Alcohol is 99% residue free.

Good Luck with that. Not worth the trouble in my case.

\ I recomend it. Spray your hair with alcohol then ignite it. It will kill a head cold

indeed but verm holds liquid, this will slowly evap in the fruiting chamber allowing the vapors to tool with the fruits. I once used Iso while removing tric from an incubating casing. I dried it with a blow dryer and once birthed into the chamber, all casings surrounding it grew 50% mutants. bysides is it really worth the tropuble to save a single PF cake, if you do the math 1 jar of substrate costs like $1.50
