have a problem here, these are sporechicks eq's, all have been nice up until now, these pictures show a blackish top on the caps of some of the recent ones. Also, one pic shows how there is no coloration where the spores are after freshly picking them. Please let us know what the blackish coloration is, as compared to the good specimens next to them, and also why the picture of the viels have no spore color on them, and if this is normal. Are these black ones anygood? are they safe? what has caused this to occur? a contam?

The black on the caps look like spore deposits.
Try to rub a q tip accross the black and see if it picks up the spores.
And then let us know

no spores, it is actually like embedded into the mushroom. I have had good luck in the past, is this a humid thing? wtf

What kind of lighting setup (if any) did you use? It looks like, if there was a light, there is some light damage.

what about the spore color? The lighting was a halogen, ultra low setting, but the same as all the others were exposed to. However, these did turn upside down and sideways, unlike the others that just grew straight up. whats the deal??

eat em i get the same thing pretty often too. theyre all good. it may be that you can see the spores throught the cap. this is my finding. also...the veil thing is normal.

do i not worry about SPORE color? will they turn dark after drying? right now they are completely colorless, i have some dry ones that have color, whats up?

Looks like spores to me.Here's a pic of my last batch.I didn't get to them on time and there were spores everywhere. I posted the pic so that you can compare.Good job with your mushies.I had one mushroom that I got a real light print from because it lost most of it's spores on the cropping surface. Notice that guy on the floor in the top right to the back.That one was almost completely black.

ehhh.) the lack of spore "coloration" is normal- caps that arent quite mature (looks like you plucked just after the veil broke) wont have their gills darkened yet.
beee.) you may want to do a search on "bacterial blotch" or "blotch" if you really think its a contam; or post your pic in the contamination forum and see what they say there. ive never seen it (the blotch), but i think it turns the cap black in places and feels *slimy* to the touch. nothing like a spore deposit.
but i think isis is rite- most likely spores :)
