    #3794974 - 02/17/05 09:34 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

When using the 50/50 casing I should case the cakes before they start to pin right...Do i have to wait till the cakes are completely colonized to case them?

the cake doesn't need to be fully colonized, but it is better if it is. If it is not fully colonized, like it stopped colonizing the substrate then do not case the part of the substrate that is uncolonized

"I like cigarettes, Miss Taggart. I like to think of fire held in a man's hand. Fire, a dangerous force, tamed at his fingertips. I often wonder about the hours when a man sits alone, watching the smoke of a cigarette, thinking. I wonder what great things have come alive from such hours. When a man thinks, there is a spot of fire alive in his mind---and it is proper that he should have the burning point of a cigarette as his one expression."

Absolutly! You should wait till 100% colonized and then some! After a 100% has been achieved, give it another day or 2, just to make the center also finished. Just because the outside looks well, doesn't account for the center.
Once your at this stage then it would be time to case them using what ever method you choose. Personaly I think 50/50 of vermiculite, and coco coir is a good choice, no matter how long you've been doing this hooby. It's always one that you can count on to give you good consistant results. Of course they all are really :smirk:
