That sounds like a rip off new-age institution. Anyone who loves you will tell you the truth for free. And even if you don't have anyone to tell it to you, you can get a book or read up on it on the internet for way cheaper!
Don't give those fucks your money!

well... TM is a sorta brand-name medic=tation ssystem mass-marketed by his holiness the maharishi mahesh yogi, beginning in a big way in the 60s with the likes of the beatles, mia farrow, donovan, paul horn, the beach boys, charles lloyd... the teacher was originally a physics professor in india, and studied under a guru before taking his version out to the world (the maharishi (= "great teacher") was a guest on johnny carson's "tonight" show! he mostly giggled in a blissed-out guru-high, hehheh...)
it is derived from hindu meditation traditions - you are given a "personal mantra" (the TM folks try to pick out a mantra suited to you from maybe a dozen or two matras for chanting & meditating with...)
but... there are indeed many many books on "how to" meditate... do you need a teacher to teach you to follow your breath & focus on your "given" mantra? okay... but there are many mantras that are available to the seeker (for no charge ) & a quiet place to sit can be found if desired... the discipline to "do the work" (even if the way is wu wei, heh...) - well, that cannot be purchased now, can it?
if it's books or websites or speccific methods or... poke around here, at some of the other entheogen & mind sciences websites, ummmm utfse, etc... ttfn...

Most meditation practices are beneficial. Just buy some books and read them, practice their techniques. Do not spend $2500 for a seminar on TM. For $2500 you could probably fly to Tibet (or wherever you like) and find a guru for yourself.
