heater under geolite/leca
    #3794311 - 02/17/05 06:36 PM (12 years, 12 days ago)

How successfull might it be to burry a fully-submersible aquarium heater underneath geolite & water inside a pmp, along w/ the bubbler(s)?

It'll be a very small pmp - about 6 gallons; though it could also become a 3 gallon real easy simply by taking off the top tub and putting on the lid. ( the top tub essentially serves as the "greenhouse" part, introduced when it's time to start pinning/fruiting )

The point being to create a pmp that also serves as an incubator... trying to keep one unit as totally self-contained as possible.

Is there any problems w/ the geolite being in contact w/ the heater?

Would the geolite possibly act as decent heat conductor? Or not?

Thanks!

I don't see why it wouldn't work... no geolite wouldn't conduct heat

it would evaporate the water in the process of heating the incubator and cause high humidity though which is not needed during incubation.if you used tyvek or pollyfilll lids especially this would mess them up somewhat.

The geolite would act like a heat capacitor and make it tough to maintain the right temperature or fix things if you go too high. It doesn't conduct heat well, but it can store it like a motherfucker.

Also, just use a separate TiT. That much moisture during incubation could cause contam problems. Before mycelium takes hold, the only water you want in the jars in the stuff that you put in there originally and PC'd

wait... I thought he was making a TiT out of his PmP just to cut down on space/self containment

Ok, thanks for the warnings - definitely stuff I failed to consider.

I'll have to come up with something else for my (distant) friend's setup - he'd really like to have an "all-in-one" system if possible. Perhaps a heatbomb thrown in, or a heat pad.

Beers!
