"All non-factual ideas you have regarding another person are fictitious and lie soley in your imagination"

how powerful the imagination can be. when we experience another person, the opinions we have of that other person can be seen as a reflection of ourselves. when an emotional response results from an experience, is this the actual repensentation of "reality?"

when we catagorize other poeple, aren't we also catagorizing ourselves? Aren't we further identifying with a representation that really isn't there?

When you view something as negative, you say this negativity is true. in the mind, the emotion is instantly justified as truth.

when we box someone is as "this" or "that" we also box ourselves in.

so if you have a viewpoint that someone needs to do something, it is really you that needs to do it. the thought is in our own head, based on our own experiences, it is therefore a reflection of yourself.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.---senior doobie

I actually don't think I agree with that. There's more to what we see in a person than our imagination. Not that we never project anything onto anyone, but we definitly can have accurate impressions about who people are that aren't just fantasies. My intuition is usually fairly right about most people. I sometimes project shit on them too, but that feels different than an actual intuitive impression of a persons character. Theres a difference.

On that note, I should also state that I agree completely that categories are not real, and not cool. What I was talking about before is nothing to do with placing people in preconcieved categories based on stereotypes, its more to do with paying attention to people as they are and understanding them on a level beyond the surface appearances.

My intuition says that you, like most people, choose what to believe about certain people based on your personal biases and assumptions, and your ego tells you that you are correct. Or do you actually test your beliefs to verify their accuracy?

Really? I am:

A. An evil bastard who delights in tormenting people.

B. A hard, but compassionate taskmaster who seeks to strip away illusion.

C. All of the above.

D. None of the above.

How do you know? Why is your impression different than someone elses? Can diametrically opposed views of a person both be valid?

Ken on Barbie during their engagement: "She is the most beautiful, caring, sensitive woman that I have ever met." *eyes twinkling*

Ken on Barbie after their divorce: "She is the most self-centered, lazy-ass, lying bitch that I have ever met."

Did Barbie really change that much? Or was it merely Ken's projection that changed?

A valuable lesson indeed.

Drop all beliefs, and simply allow facts and observations to speak for themselves.

If you use too much toilet paper, you will clog up the toilet and restrict the Chi of the porcelain throne, or flow, if you will.

Likewise, the same principle applies to beliefs, for all beliefs are a form of clinging and attachment. Therefore, the less beliefs one adheres to, the more freely one will be able to... Flourish.

"Can diametrically opposed views of a person both be valid?"

I think they can. That is what makes them valid. Frontside. backside. FLIPSIDE(?).

I've heard one psyche can inhabit about 200 personalities. Is this true?

What is a psyche, and how could such an idea be tested for accuracy?

So if I got you right, Kaiowas, to put others in a box is to put the self in a box? Many people do this and it is usually out of some form of controlling attachment. This can be aimed at anything, but honestly; It just goes to show how we need to let go of attachments because they cause what Buddhists call "suffering"

Psychological setup? Programming? The whole set of syntaxes making us run the way we do? You ARE a robot, aren't you?

What is a psyche really?

Great post btw, kaiowas! I'll work on this for sure. Have been reading way too much into things and people lately. It drives one mad. *crazy laughter*

So a psyche is basically our mental imprinting? If so, I doubt the same psyche could be shared by 2 people, let alone 200.

psyche; mind functioning in a center of thought, emotion, and behavior and conscious, subconsciously adjusting, mediating the body's responses to the most immediate social and physical environments, interpreted as real.

in soul I am, and you, in spirit I am us, we as you. :P

No one mentioned persons. A personality, or character if you will, is different from a person in the respect that the latter includes a body.

How about this: a psyche is the consciousness "within" (experienced by) one specific body.

Good point, however since any relationship we have is extremely alienated and mediated by the fact that all I know about you comes from words you chose to type I wouldn't cling to any impression of who you are. What you see on the internet is much different than what you see when you actually interact with someone directly, in real life. In order to have any concept of what a person is about you need to be able to pay attention to the subtleties of thier language, body language, thier voice, thier actions, all the little ways they communicate without even thinking about it.

I have much better concepts of who my friends are than who you are. I also realize that theres no way to get inside someone completely and know exactly what they are about. I'm not making any grand statements here, just that its possible to figure out what someone is about by paying attention. Making assumptions based on superficialities is not what I'm talking about.
