hey, i read through a guide but i'm looking for more specific information.
1. how much one "cake" yields
2. the cost of all materials needed
i'm looking for the cheapest and easiest way to produce mushrooms, but i'm not sure which method is what i'm looking for. and i assume that you need more materials for more growing, so the yield of a batch is important. i'm not looking to produce a lot. so i'm looking through the site, but any info you guys can help me with would be much appreciated. thanks!

1. Depends on growing conditions.
Anywhere from 0 to 9 grams dry the first flush.
Then the 2nd flush.
Then the 3rd flush.
The larger the yeilds on flushes...the less flushes you will probably get.
2. Materials cost different prices...everywhere.
Down the street...each store is different...one store might have higher prices...and usually does.
Across town...cause each store is different...some stores just plain charge more...Example mom and pop hardware store is going to have higher prices on jars than Home Depot.
Across the country in the boon docks...supply and demand...plus it might cost them to ship items into their store.
Across the world...they might not have some of the items...and if they do they might be twice as expensive.
So it depends on where you live...and some times items are seasonal.

yeah. it just depends on how well the mushrooms are taken care of--or how good the conditions are. prices are different, just look for terrariums and such and price the stuff at your local store. I am also a new grower--going to start tomorrow :-)

thanks. that's seriously exactly what i was looking for. mostly the yield, later i found the tek with good pricing information. when my friend and i begin the first flush, i'll be keeping an updated log.
another question...how sure can you be of sterility? i have a fear of being really sterile and getting some unseen contaminate that fucks me up (not in the good way). are all contaminates visual (assuming the mushrooms are sprouting out of the cake)?

As far as I know, the only contaminants you'll be worrying about are the ones you can see. Here's some good info on contaminants:

Growing for the first time. Bought a grow kit & spores from Sporebank.com. Everything is up & running, about 14 days into this, and just wondering about TEMP. control. It gets no colder here than 45 degrees at night, and my grow kit is set up in a cabniet, is there any concerns I should have?

Probably should be in another thread, but it's ok. First off--grow kits are the biggest waste of money known to man. That being said, incubation of jars ideally is 84-86 degrees F. There is a large difference in colonization times based solely on say 70 deg vs 84 deg.

u can spot contams by color and growth pattern:
most contams are a much different color but sometimes u might
wonder wether its a contam or 'blueing'...
in that case the speed pf growth will give it away...
most contams will overtake your jar in a matter of days.
once u have harvested the last flush u can take a knife to the cake and see whats what for sure...
