Stupid experiment gone wrong...

Hey guys..

Today I thought I'd be smart and try to save on those expensive Kerr jars and use a bunch of emtpy 750ml (size of two cans, for you in the US) plastic pop containers. I figured I'd fill em with PF Tek substrate and poke the side with the syringe to innoculate. When 100% colonized, I'd just cut the top off and tada - a nice big cake. I made 5 of them and poked a small hole in each cap to prevent them from exploding while boiling. This is where things went very wrong. =( Turns out pop bottles SHRINK when boiled. They're literally HALF the size!! Its crazy! Now my substrate is all compacted. I'll innoculate anyhow, but I doubt it will go well....

Moral of the story - use glass, not pepsi bottles

Im glad yours didnt explode. I first tried it that way and i forgot to put holes in the bottle... as it shrank and the preasure built it became torpedo shaped and then exploded out the bottom covering my face with hot water and honey.
