I really dislike telling a person to simmer something for a amount of time. That is like saying cook at 350-F for a long time, I think anyway.
Why can't we have a agreed temp that simmering is and tell people a temp??? I read over and over about water content being wrong. Well allot of times (even I have had BIG problems with simmering) I see
OK if there is a temp that simmering is =2 what is it? if there is not... That's just purely The gay.

Siimmer temperature is around (=just under) the boiling point of water, so 100?C or 212?F.

Simmer is just the beginnng of boil as oppoesed to a roiling boil.

According the Alton Brown on "The Food Network" simmer is between 140F and 180F.

Do you all think 190-F for 45 minutes would work? This is the highest setting on this cooker thing I have, and I would really like to use it.
I want to start making all my grows the "same" so I can start to get more constant results.
Also should I drop the grain into the hot water or let the unit heat up with the grain in it.

Because boiling temperature for water in michigan is different than boiling temperature elsewhere. Water doesn't always boil at 100 C (212F im a fricking idiot!@ GOSH!). Thus simmering will occur at different temperatures depending on your location(elevation)

The thing about simmering is that it is boiling. Alton Brown's range is just because to simmer, he gets the water boiling and then drops the heat to between 140-180, whichever on that particular range keeps the water bubbling, but not moving violently. Boil, then drop temps. Adding your grain should take it just below the boiling point anyways if there's not a lot of heat
