    #3788510 - 02/16/05 10:58 AM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Well, people the time has come. In a few days my growbag will be ready to take that all important step of beginning to fruit :crazy2:....As a newbie should I case this or let it fruit in the bag.....the thing is Ive come this far....and I know I will get mushies if I let it be in the bag....but I heard my yields will be minimal......what should I do????

I would try a little of both, fruit some substrate in bag and case some see what your strain likes.

do you have everything needed to case a substrate?

Yes coir,vermiculite, oyster shell....

but heres a question....now if i were to use a sterlite container, case it....do I cover it? Or place it uncovered in a fruit chamber...Ive done my reading its just a little uncertain about the whole process

I take it your sterilite isn't transparent?

I've never cased in a sterilite or big container before, but I could tell you what I'd do.

I would place all the casing layers in the sterilite and incubate TiT. then when it came time to fruit. Expose it to light by taking the top off misting and putting some cleaned saran wrap over the top.

is your bag pinning or is there just primordia?

just out of curiosity how long did your bag take to 90% colonize?

So let me get this straight:

1.Case in unclear sterlite
2.Cover it and let incubate
3. Lift seran wrap and mist
4. Then it fruits....?

Man im sorry... If you could spell it out for me step by step maybee my dumb ass could grasp it.( I rate you five mushies already)
It took one month one day to colonize

1)crumble your colonized substrate into a container (more surface area).
2) cover with 1/4in casing layer(your coir/verm)
3) cover container and put back to incubate.
4) on the 3rd day take it out and "patch" or cover the myc you see.
5) Put it into the fruiting chamber.

I tried to find you a link to a specific thread. A guy cased in a 10 gallon sterilite.

this might help you http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/3290155/an/0/page/0
and I will help best I can.

it doesn't matter if the sterilite is opaque or transparent, but if it is opaque you will have to put saran wrap over the top to induce pinning

okay step by step this is what I would do.

1. if the bag hasn't pinned yet (because if it has it will have a hard time going back dormant into colonization phase). I would mix together some casing layers. sterilize them and lay the bottom layer down. Crumble the substrate in the bag and put that down. then your top layer. Before you do this clean the sterilite out with alcohol and some lysol. let it evaporate before you begin casing layers and substrate

2. incubate tub in tub style with a subermersible heater. It needs to incubate so the myc will start to colonize the casing layers. once you see myc poking through the top casing layer. Diver says he only lets his casings colonize for 2 days max. Take it out of the tub in tub and the heat bath that it created, and expose it to 12 hours of light by using saran wrap. Clean the saran wrap first. If you have a transparent container you don't need to use the saran wrap.

3. soon as it's done incubating mist with 10:1 ratio of H2O to H2O2. Keep light coming in but you don't need a full 12 hours after the intial 12 hours is complete. After the first flush. harvest. and patch the harvested areas with some new sterilized casing material

that should be it

why saran wrap over to induce pinning? air exchange is crucial to force start the fruting cycle.

because if the container is opaque, how is going to get any light?? I'm not say not to fan it and exchange the air.

In casing, it is 1 to 4 ratio of the top layer right?

So .25 inch of casing equals 1 inch of substrate?
