Arkansas state constitution

Sec. 1. Atheists disqualified from holding office or testifying as witness. No person who denies the being of a God shall hold any office in the civil departments of this State, nor be competent to testify as a witness in any court. Anyone see a problem with this?

I know that's the way things work out, but I think it's horseshit. Remember when George Bush said this in 1987?: "..., I don't know that Atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God." Probably not, it wasn't "newsworthy." Can you imagine the fucking outrage there would have been though if he'd said Jews or native Americans shouldn't be considered citizens or patriots? There are more atheists in America than people in those two groups combined. 9-11% of Americans are atheists.

The bit about not being permitted as a witness in any court could be usefull to any athiest subpeoned against his/her will. God does move in silly ways.

ya know, not being a citizen would have all kinds of nifty benefits.hmmm...no taxes, no draft, no semi-retarded presidents insulting you, and all the nice benefits of a military-industrial nation to boot! as for the arkansas line, i find it ironic that we are not compentant enough to testify or determine a persons innocent or guilt, but are more than compentant enough to commit the murders or mastermine the plots. again, if that is true, why can an atheist be held for trial at all? are we not all mentally incompentent because we dont like the jebus?
