Cacti help asap!!!!
    #3784072 - 02/15/05 05:22 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

I took my pedros outside today after the winter inside under light flouros. One is a cutting about five inches long, planted on its side, with one four inch pup coming from one of the areola (site of the spines). Upon touching one of them, it felt like mush under the skin, almost like water. The pup is still very firm. Any advice? Do I cut the pup off? Can the whole thing be saved. I only watered once during the winter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it healthy green?

If it has a healthy color it may just be from dehydration. If it looks brown and squishy (rot) you'll have to cut the pup ASAP.

I would cut the pup and let it grow its own roots. Why risk it?

Freezing can do that too. If there is no brown or black, it may be ok to wait a while.

From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)

it went to a brown color overnight. I cut the pup off. Letting it callus as we speak. how long should i wait to re plant. I am going to leave the cutting in the soil and see what happens. Not going to water it for a good long while.

Put the cut pup in a dark and humid place until it calluses. I normally just wait until i see little roots coming out of the callus to put it in dirt. It usually takes about 2 weeks - 1 month in my experience.
