what are the pros and cons of pre soaking the rye grain b4 PCing?
This is what i did soak rye grain in water for 24 hours. rinse with clean water and simmer on stove for 45 min. rinse with clean water. Put rye grain in 500ml bottles that were washed with bleach and water and PC for 45 min. let cool and inoculated. shook the grain and 4 days later my efforts resulted in 100% contamination of all jars. Contamination is light blue/green and is throughout the grain in every jar. any ideas on what I'm doing wrong. I'm wondering if its a problem with the jars or could it be from the syringe???
I'm assuming contamination occur ed b4 is shook the jars otherwise it would just be near the top. Am I correct in this?

are you using rye grain or rye seed??? i think in one of your other posts you were referring to seed... i've heard of seed working, but grain is ideal. the seeds can carry lots of contams in them, and maybe 45 mins wasn't enough... are you sure your PC cooks at 15psi???

I use WBS for Ps. Cubensis and Rye Seed (Grass seed) for Ps. Mexicana

as to PC I do not PC grains or seed for less that 1.5 hrs!

The rest sounds good, well everything except the contamination

using organic rye grain from a health food store. Bought a 10kg bag for $10. PC is rated for 15psi. I've had positive growth b4 when the bottles were brand new. since then everything has become contaminated. I'm considering purchasing new jars but i think that's extreme

Pre-soaking and simmering rye takes the guess work out of getting the right water content in the jars. You also need to PC grain for at least an hour, 90 minutes is best. Sounds like your jars weren't sterilized enough or maybe the spores weren't good.
