Bottom of the bag
    #3778616 - 02/14/05 12:18 PM (19 years, 2 months ago)

I got this here bag of mushroom dust. Its like 4 grams of bottom of the bag. I took the dust and am trying to culture it in liquid honey jars. I just really liked the strain of mushroom it was but im anable to identify it. So I thought maybe this would work. I don't know. Anyone got any advice on it.

I have three cultures going from freshly purchased dry mushrooms. This works fine with a HW tek. Just don't forget to add water to the honey! The first time I did a honey tek, I missed the part about adding water! I had my dehydrated shroom chunks sitting in pure honey and they just sat there for a month until I added water.

Just expect that you MAY get contamination. (Which is why three or four jars should be made.) Since these were possibly air-dried, they may contain several sirborn spores. I have not had one contaminate yet, but I may have just been lucky!

Also, be sure to label the jars as "??? - HWS". This way you don't mix them up with your other things. (HWS = Honey Water Solution)

Gently roll the jars to cause a whirlpool inside. Rest them on a flat surface and hold firmly. Then "wax-on, wax-off" clockwise and counterclockwise motions to cause the solution to whirlpool. That will help distribute and spread the growing mycelium.

I use a large syringe with a thick needle to suck-up and blow-out the solution to break it up further, until I get a big glob growing. Agar has a great picture of an ideal HW jar, or Kyro jar. It has two rubber hoses stuffed tightly into two holes, for access to the liquid culture. Instead of removing the cap every time you want to get fluid. It also allows you to shake the jar more vigerously without leaking fluid, so you can get a better mixing action.

You should see some growth after about two-three days, and enough to work with after about a week. (I incubate mine. Others leave in fridge.)

Well I woke up today and checked my little babies and out of the 14. 4 of them have growth!!! Yea yea yea!! this is sweet. So does anyone know how long they will live in the water and honey mixture. I only got like 2 weeks right. Or can a fridge preserve them for awhile?
Thanks

Yea so far from what i got going on. I cant see any signes of contamination. And its growing more and more everyday. I make up and inoculated 10 jars yesterday. So I just have to wait and see what happens.

Well its the 10 jars I said I made, I could not find jars. So i made up 10 of the poor man's terrariums.

http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_mmgg.shtml

Well its been like 8 days since I inoculated them with the liquid mycelium and I have growth. there 2 out of the 10 that there is nothing growing on the top. But the rest are looking good. No signs of contamanitation.. Everything is going smoothley

Give them another 3 to 4 weeks and they should to complety cultured...

When I can find my drivers for my cam, I'll post comes pics of what I got.

Well thats all for now.

i don't believe you will have good results at all and if had to bet would bet on the side of complete failure, their is so many mold and bacteria in your bag of shake that you will have it in the honey too.
if you want to take, crap and get pure clean mycelia you will have to put the shake dusk on agar petri dishes and them when all the stuff starts to grow cut out a piece of mycelia and move it to a other petri dish and see if it clean then make jars or honey
this has been covered in detail in teh mushroom growers guide and on this site i am sure

O well, Im just trying out new things.  Never really messed with it before.  but so far so good.  If everything does not turn out ooo welll.  The only reason why I decided to do this is becuase I really liked the strain and I don't know where it came from or what its called.  I just know their good

The odds of seeing growth are very high.

The odds of growing cubensis without agar, are very low.

Don't worry though, I tried the same thing when I was new.
