i put them in a pot on the stove at med for about 1/2 hour

Any temp that makes them boil. Usually a very low temp, so that there's not much splashing going on.

You mean in a pot (on the stove) or in a PC...
Depends. If you're using brown rice flour (brf), then you can use a pot. Anything else, and you'll most likely need a PC.
