You will see a little yellow/green spec, sometimes with a white fuzzy tail. The tail is the root and the fuzz are the roots hairs, often the root has trouble digging into the soil but usually they find their way.

you sprinkle the seeds lightly on top so when they sprout you'll see nice little green balls. they should be pretty easy to spot next to all that brown soil.

At first they might look alike but after a month or two you will be able to differentiate them. Pedros have longer spines, lw just have fuzz. Pedro grows faster too. Make sure you don't give them direct sun or too much light and kill them.

thanks all. i have a flourescent light over them in a humid plastic container. the light runs about 15 or so hours a day. this is just to get them to sprout but its been more than two weeks and nothing has come up. am i doing something wrong? they are planted in a cactus soil mix and i'm making sure the soil is damp.

they should be on the surface of the soil/sand and yes they take a while to germinate

on the surface? mine are just a tad under the surface, like the grow guide at http://www.plot55.com/growing/general/cacti_seed.html says to do. they'll just take longer to germinate right?
what percent of seeds should be viable normally?
