Where does it exist?
    #3774187 - 02/13/05 02:57 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Ok, you should try this if you have two seperate phone lines.
When i worked at Papa Johns once, i got bored, so i called the store, from the store. Answered the call, and put it on hold, then i put the answered call on hold also. So i had two phone lines, playing hold messages, back and forth to each other and hung up both receivers, while both on hold. Now, what I want to know is, where does this "conversation" of phone messages actually exist? It isnt getting transduced into sound, and not playing through the speakers on the earpeice of the phone.

it was actually some cheesy Papa Johns voice telling you as poetically as possible about the ingredients of their pizza.

It would be merely two signals being sent back and forth without translation into sound. While signals are being sent they are only heard as sound when converted into sound by the speaker of the phone and the phone itself. So in essence the "conversation" was there in signals however you merely couldnt hear it.That is unless you have a direct connection from your mind to the line and you can speak telephone signals.Lmao

i know it would only exist as electromagnetic energy. Here is the kicker, the hold messages, were from the same loop of tape, so you are sending two signals, towards each other in a phone line, which is like 180 degrees out of phase. I wonder if they can cancel each other out like that? they would also be making a complete "circle" by travelling out of the same hold message playback bank, travelling outside in some lines, then coming back.

Telephone lines carries many signals simultaneously so its likely they would travel toward each other and pass each other and reach the phones all likely merely a split second off maybe even only nanoseconds off considering the speed at which they travel. It would also likely function as a closed loop repeating until something breaks it.They wont cancel each other out but be off a tad in timing from each other.

I have recorded in studio before, and you can actually have cancelation of "phazes" if you have too many mics on a set of drums, or if they are placed in the wrong way.... However, I don't think this would be the case here, as there is not mutiple input sources....

BUT, if there is only one tape playing as the source of the recorded sound, seems logical that they would be right ON timing with each other.... Eeeehhhh...? I mean, you can say it goes thru one extra millimeter of circuit board from one line to the other, but how much of a "tad off" in timing were you thinking...?

If it sent it simultaneously( as in rapid succession or almost completely in time) mere nanoseconds if there were a delay of any sort maybe up to seconds.Im not exactly the most knowledgeable person about this topic.lol.However I have a basic working knowledge but very basic.

So now I'm wondering why you didn't three-way this phone call so you could've heard what actually happened (3rd phone on mute... speakerphone/mute for even more fun).

This also makes me wonder about those times when I've called for pizza and kept getting a busy signal.
