Misting Question
    #3774041 - 02/13/05 02:12 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Okay so I'm still a little confused on the whole misting of the cake.

I understand that mist will harm pins and the like and I understand not to mist the cakes directly so that large droplets do not land on them. But here is where I am confused: If water will harm the pins and you're supposed to birth the cake at 1st sign of pins, where does misting take place? Sorry if this sounds redundant but I couldn't find any information that completely answered my question.

Thanks!

You birth your cake after complete colonization of the jars. Don't wait until pins show inside the jar, that is invitro and doesn't always work. Mist your chamber walls during the fruiting stage, i.e. while the cake is inside your fruiting chamber.

Does this help?

Okay, now that makes sense, thanks for that. It was what I was under the assumption of, but I just had to ask because I'm mid-first grow right now, so just for safety's sake I had to ask.

So right after you put the cake in the fruiting chamber you mist it?

Exactly, i always spray the mist above the terrarium and let it fall down into it. Your spraying to raise the humidity of your terrarium. If you have a few extra bucks and want to continue doing cakes, or even moving onto casings you might want to look into the Poor Mans Pod. http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/25056

Its designed for cakes but i like to use it for casings also. Some people think that it give them too high of a humidity for casings. But i tend to prefer it as high as i can get it. (I like the mycellium crawling up the shroom.) I found that the PMP works quite well for casings too.
