You ARE the eternal NOW

You are this Moment, do not attach your mind to any direction.
No practices, no past, no future, not even the Emptiness of your Heart, not even space.
To be free forever introduce yourself to this Moment. This Moment is always this Now, It will not change.
It is Freedom, free from mind and concepts, and is your fundamental birthright.
The best use of this Moment is to drown in It. Keep Quiet, you are Inside of the inside. Do not dwell anywhere and make no effort. The concept of effort and practice is bondage.
Just Keep Quiet, wherever you are, just Keep Quiet.

It is not THAT eternal as you will ALL be wormfood in less than 100 years. That makes for a fairly short "eternity". Sorry to bring the bad news.

yes, this physical organism will rot
yet the substance beneath these forms, in which all seemingly separate things are one, is eternal.
we can become this eternal being by letting go of the illusion of individuality and duality, and in living in harmony with the course of eternity (letting go).
but, it's 'your' choice what you attach yourself to

there is no such thing as 'you', only the grand 'us'
think of 'us' as individual fingers on the same hand. we can become attached to thinking that we are separate from the other fingers, and that we 'die' when that finger gets cut off. really though, we are all the HAND, and are one eternal being looking through the perceptions of these 'individual' beings. when you fully let go of the desire to be separate, to be that finger, you can fully embrace being the eternal hand
of course, many will say this is rediculous, but whatever

I see. So if you girlfriend or sister or mother was brutally raped and murdered, you would not weep or get angry because of this "truth" that you hold?

That would be quite the serious test of whether or not one's mind is free of attachments. I don't know how many would pass.. I doubt I would, at this point in time.
That said, I consider it of upmost importance to be able to instantly accept every aspect of reality as it occurs, which would mean no mental suffering or anguish over something that cannot be changed. Reality unfolds as it unfolds, it is very shortsighted for us to not only hold an opinion on how reality should unfold or should have unfolded, but to then punish ourselves when reality unfolds in a different manner than we think it should have unfolded.
If the day comes when the exact scenario you describe occurs for me personally, I hope to be in a place mentally and spiritually where I can simply look the other way and continue walking down the path of life. To be so in the moment and accepting of reality is the purest form of sanity that I can imagine, and it is completely ironic that almost all would see it as impossible and pointing to some form of a psychological problem.
Peace.

"Ashes to ashes, dust to dust." Earthly remains. But...
Eternity remains (pun on remains).
The trick is to identify with Eternity - first. Surfing. Catch a wave and you're sitting on top of the world. But, if the wave catches you, you're reef meat.
As to the "Transcendental Subjectivity" [E. Husserl]...it remains to each of us to conduct this experiment referred to metaphorically above. Or not. Results may vary (if the Perennial Philosophy is True, mind is "amphibias" as Huxley put it and can identify with Eternity OR Temporality, Spirit OR Matter).
It is the case of "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, and unto GOD what is GOD's." A head shop around Bleeker and McDougal Streets in 1968 Greenwich Village sold buttons, hundred of buttons. I didn't know what these two meant when I was 15, but I still remember them. One said "Existence Precedes Essence." The other said "Essence Precedes Existence."
Here we are.

each moment is eternal upon itself
even if you personally do not think that we are eternal in the linear time sense, each moment is still infinite.
it is the fact that the next moment has stored within our perception the memory of past ones that create this 'flow'.
in that sense, every moment of the 'past' and 'future' still exist simultaneously, although they are impossible to 'reach' from the present. afterall, our memories of the past exist as a pattern in the present
I have yet to find one single person who lives according to their professed spiritual beliefs.
as much as anecdotal evidence from a stranger on the internet is worth, I personally strive for 100% consistency with my beliefs and behaviour. of course, you'll throw in statistics of church-goers who get divorced and whatnot, but I can only speak for myself

Then perhaps you aren't looking at it from the right perspective. I am constantly applying my spiritual understandings in my life, becoming more and more aware of these understandings in moments of my day. The understanding that relates to complete acceptance of reality as it occurs and of freeing the mind from attachments does not automatically produce complete acceptance of every aspect of reality and a mind absolutely free from attachments. It takes time to apply these understandings in one's own life, relative to how strongly the mind's behaviors and patterns are set, and also to how much intensity, focus, intent, and awareness one puts into changing.
Peace.

No, I still feel a little queasy... Wait! It's not actually a viral flu I am suffering, it is my negative thought forms coming home to roost.
Better?

One said "Existence Precedes Essence." The other said "Essence Precedes Existence."
Here we are.
Ah yes, Essence...
Searching for life in the mechanics of cells and molecules is like trying to appreciate a painting by analyzing the paint. It might be interesting in a narrow way, but the true point is to grasp the idea that the painting conveys.
Why concern yourself exclusively with the mechanics of a situation? That is like seeking an artist's genius in the brushes; it is the being of the artist, not the tools, that is responsible for the beauty of a painting.
In the same way, the nature of life cannot be merely understood as the interplay of mechanistic forces. It may only be comprehended by taking in the essence behind the physics, chemistry, biology, math, and other scientific outlooks. All too frequently, we become so mesmerized by life's details that we fail to comprehend the whole.
The essence of life shall never be known by a human being as long as that person seeks to observe life like viewer and subject. The absolutely essential nature of life can only be comprehended by merging fully with the flow of life, so that one is utterly a part of it.
