You are best off in that part of Texas going to lake Palestine during the summer on a humid night. They generally don't grow that far north from what I hear. They seldom do but it is kind of rare. Except on that lake.
Good luck.

What do you mean "not even"....Im lost.
That is where most psilocybes in the southh grow is out of cow manure.
Psilocybe cubensis grows in subtropical climate out of cow manure and manure enriched soil.
Im not trying to sound like a dick but the FAQ has a lot of the info you need to get started and mushroom johns website too. The information is all over the place.
Good luck, jt

Most defently not true.
Cubbes only grow in sub-tropical climates out of cow manure or manure enriched soil.

yeaa I would have to agree with Seaweed on this one, if the conditions and habitat arent there- you could have hundreds of cow shit in a field without a Single magic in the bunch.. now thats not to say you Wont find Any mush.. cause you prob will- but it will most certainly be Inactive

Went hunting this morning in North Texas. I went to Longhorn pastures, buffalo fields, and a humongous dairy cow field. not a damn thing, not even an inactive shroom. Anybody know of good spots up north to find actives?

Best place to find cubes is along the gulf and in south texas. You can find them in south central, and sometimes even central after it rains for a couple of days or more.

Nope-- sadly no- But head a bit further south and a lot more east .. to the Piney Woods of Texas known as Palestine- then you will be in luck... Ive searched a bit in Waco when I was there and although quite a few lakes I dont think that really has tooo much to do with the funguy growth
hit me up on a PM- Im close

W00t, I found lots of mycelium at 4 different fields just southeast of San Antonio. Right around the border of Bexar county and some other 1. I only found 1 shroom however, the stalk was 1.5", cap was 1" in diameter (apx.)
I think I'd rather grow them than have to drive around a lot to find them.
