Bush wants to dissolve NDIC
    #3772649 - 02/13/05 02:17 AM (11 years, 9 months ago)

http://www.usdoj.gov/ndic/

Gasp! For once... can we actually agree that he did something... (cringes)... *positive*?

The less gov't, the better.. especially when it's a department in the gov't that deals with the war on drugs.

Funny.. I hate Bush... and everyone knows this... but I actually give him props once in a while when he does something SMART like this... and I bet I'll still have a bunch of smelly hippes coming down on me calling me a facist republican... because if you don't have an absolute 100% hatred for bush... if your hatred level is only at 99%... then you're a dirty facist republican.

whatever... copy and paste it.. go to yahoo.com and then plug it in if you're worried about it..

it's the national drug intelligence agency's website. and i'm sure the dea/ndic already knows what the shroomery is... i doubt they care though. After 8 years if they were going to take this palce down, they would have done it by now. A couple shroomerites going to their website isn't going to do anything.

I agree with you, actually. On the surface, this would be a good thing. But what concerns me is what Bush is going to replace it with....

see.. this is what i'm talking about.. can't have a positive reaction... everyone automatically assumes he wants to replace it with something more sinister.. what if he just wants to cut bullshit out of the budget and doesn't plan on replacing it? That was the whole point of this. He cut like 5 billion dollars from the budget this week just to get rid of pointless bullshit... this happened to be part of that budget

It's reflexive, BrAiN.

After all, it's the stoopid evil genius Chimpy Bushitler we're talking about, right? Everything he does must have a hidden agenda, an ulterior motive. It's an article of faith with the cool crowd, don'tcha know.

That's a good point. Maybe you're right. But I must say I've grown quite skeptical and cynical of this administration, and with good reason too. I won't get into that right now, but going by their track record of recent years, I've grown to view anything this bunch in Washington says or does with no small suspicion. Oh yes, and I came to this conclusion all on my own, and I'm certainly not parroting what others say, either....

So if George Bush jumped out in front of a car to save a toddler frmo getting run over... apparently there would be some hidden agenda to that too...

I'll give the republican's props for one thing... they want to reduce the size of the government... which is what we need... we need less government interference in our lives. I don't like the feds telling me that I need their approval on how to run my life... if the NDIC goes.... GOOD RIDDIANCE! Lets just be happy... I'm sure he's just cutting useless crap to pay for the war... but fuck it.. if he wants to cut drug intelligence for that reason... lets just be happy. That's one less gov't department invading our privacy

Nooo I'm not saying that at all. While it is true that any administration bears watching and met with cynicism, this particular administration has raised many questions and bears even more scrutiny.

I'm all for decreasing government interference in out lives, too. But Bush has far from done this. I give you such agencies that have come about, thanks in part to the so-called "Patriot Acts". He has actually helped expand government interference in our lives (and eroded our civil liberties) all the name of "Homeland Security"...

Correction, they say they want to reduce the size of the government... but when we examine the facts, they INCREASE the size of government. Even with Bush's proposed cuts, the size of government and the government debt continues to increase under Republican control.

Yeah he really wants to descrease government interference in our lives. I have evidence to prove it as well.

http://www.issues2000.org/2004/George_W__Bush_Drugs.htm

Quote:

Bush started the day with a narrower and more deliberate approach, unveiling a $2.8 billion proposal to curb illegal drug use. His campaign pitched the drug-policy speech as his main event, continuing the weeklong theme of ?giving parents the tools they need.?

Quote:

As governor, Bush favored tougher laws for drug offendors, including signing legislation that allows judicial discretion to sentence first-time offendors possessing less than one gram of cocaine to a maximum of 180 days in jail. (Previously, first-time offendors received automatic probation.) Bush is still trailed by unsubstantiated allegations of cocaine use.

Quote:

Washington is spending $680 million in Colombia this year, most of it on military training and counter-drug programs, including aerial herbicide spraying of cocoa leaves, which U.S. officials say has cut cocaine production by 20 percent for the second straight year.

Oops guess I was wrong.

This was -- according to the link you provided -- a campaign ploy by Bush in the year 2000 election campaign, similar to Gore's campaign ploy of a $5.3 billion increase over double the time period. Bush's 2.8 billion proposal was to cover five years, Gore's 5.3 billion was to cover ten years. Can you provide a link showing this proposal was ever implemented once Bush became president in January of 2001?

Can you provide a link to this quote, please? It's not from the page you linked. What year does that refer to?

I can't find the original link for the second quote sorry.

Maybe this will help clarify the first quote.

Note: The money he spends is important but I find the act of limiting my freedom more important than the amount of money he spends on it. He could spend $1 million supporting the WoD and I would find it as dictatorial as spending $1 billion.

http://www.drugwarfacts.org/economi.htm

# In 1969, $65 million was spent by the Nixon administration on the drug war; in 1982 the Reagan administration spent $1.65 billion; in 2000 the Clinton administration spent more than $17.9 billion; and in 2002, the Bush administration spent more than $18.822 billion.

Sources: U.S. Congress, Hearings on Federal Drug Enforcement before the Senate Committee on Investigations, 1975 and 1976 (1976); Office of National Drug Control Policy, National Drug Control Strategy, 1992: Budget Summary (Washington DC: US Government Printing Office, 1992), p. 214; Office of National Drug Control Policy, National Drug Control Budget Executive Summary, Fiscal Year 2002 (Washington DC: Executive Office of the President, April 9, 2001), p. 2, Table 1: Office of National Drug Control Policy, "National Drug Control Strategy: FY 2003 Budget Summary" (Washington, DC: Office of the President, February 2002), Table 2, p. 6.

So it is obvious that his 2.8 billion proposal was not in fact implemented. The budget for the drug war in 2000 was 17.9 billion. Two years later it had increased by maybe three per cent more than the cost of inflation.

And now he wants to eliminate entirely the NDIC. I'd say that's a step in the right direction. But hey... let's focus instead on a discarded campaign proposal from almost five years ago. Much more satisfying.

Do you honestly believe Bush feels the government should not interfere in a person's right to do what they want with their body?
